Touran Rear Vents

Full Version: Touran Rear Vents
Anybody done the rear vents on the VW Touran - large rubber surround that stops you getting a card in to film. Is there a quick way to remove the glass?
Pull the panel, couple of 10mm's and you need to remove all the outer door seal.
Only way to do them ND
Looks like a separate rubber around the vent - got one in next week will see if i can work it out. Thanks for the info.
Trust me...I would'nt give you a reply if I had'nt done them...I dont like to waste my time and fingers typing.
Plus, I have one!! QUOTE (naughtydog @ Jul 30 2007, 03:57 PM) [*]528721[/*] Trust me...I would'nt give you a reply if I had'nt done them...I dont like to waste my time and fingers typing. Plus, I have one!!

Its great that you got it done...now how about shedding some light so others can benefit from it? I suppose its the reason why we make such threads in the first place!
dont waste your time removing panels, your never gonna make any cash if it takes you 5 hours to tint a touran, if you cut about 1mil into the rubber theres room enough to slide in the film and lay it down,
bit like some of the merc c classes, etc QUOTE (blanco_londres @ Sep 1 2009, 02:44 PM) [*]713953[/*] dont waste your time removing panels, your never gonna make any cash if it takes you 5 hours to tint a touran, if you cut about 1mil into the rubber theres room enough to slide in the film and lay it down, bit like some of the merc c classes, etc It takes me about 10 mins to get them out, and they look like a proper job when they are done. There is a big rubber area on those, I did a merc today and keep the panels on those and still get the film right to the back of the 1/4 glass os it looks factory but the Touran is a different thing altogether. I suppose I could just paint them black!
well senor naughty, i would'nt advise you to paint them black, theres no need to, that response was not for you anyway, it was directed at the fella having problems tinting, you got your way captain and it works for you,
you obviously know what your doing (on that one) but everyone tints differently. i did not tell the civic fella to paint it black, but i gave him 3 options to make a clean job, whats your trick on the older smart for 2's rear perspex quarters? personally i would paint the whole panel, mask up whole car, scuff it up with 800 wet and dry, plastic primer, basecoat, jet black, 3 coats of clear, cut and buff=factory look. charge an extra 60 notes, easy money!
I thought that would get a response!!
That sounds like way to much hassle for me. The customer wants to see out of that little window as the visability is really bad on the civics. Each to his own..as you say...
Well the Touran's back in the morning so I'm gonna have another shot at taking the quarters out. I usually trim the rubber on C-class mercs and get the film to sit just right.
I suppose doing the same here is also an option but just a bit more awkard. Will update tmro...cheers for the responses QUOTE (pro_tinter @ Sep 2 2009, 06:44 PM) [*]714115[/*] Well the Touran's back in the morning so I'm gonna have another shot at taking the quarters out. This what i done an it worked great,oh by the way had never took a door window out before. when putting bar back in use small bit of slip on rubber to get back in easier.
call me if your unsure.
I charge £10 per minute!! QUOTE (naughtydog @ Sep 2 2009, 09:19 PM) [*]714149[/*] call me if your unsure. I charge £10 per minute!! i'll get you a few pints of the black stuff if your ever over in belfast, nick
Got it done and it looks mint! Cheers for the help fellas
It wasn't too bad was it?
Hey Naughty,
Thanks for the PM reference the Touran customer - I can't send PM's at the moment. I know what you mean about the Touran's, I'm happy to let the cheap end of the market bodge these cars. We are flat out busy at present, so if the guy wants a £150 Thanks anyway and will stay in touch. Tim QUOTE (naughtydog @ Sep 3 2009, 07:34 PM) [*]714294[/*] It wasn't too bad was it? take them out, take them out, take them out!!!! i never cut rubbers, cutting rubbers is vandalism in my book, i try to avoid it like the plague, only 1 i can think of off the top of my head is an old discovery, i sometimes cut them because the doorframes tend to be that rusty that if you strip them the might not go back together, as naughtydog says you will whip those 1/4s out in a few minutes once youve sussed them, i have done loads of tourans and they dont take anything like 5 hours,
i am often accused of taking far 2 much glass out but as nick says it makes a great looking clean job first time every time, my general rule is if i can get it out easily enough then it comes out! (i cant wait to see the response this gets from the die hard pullers and tuckers!!) i have always worked on the assumtion that there is no right and wrong way to do things in tinting, if it works for you thats all that matters, im always much happier with glass out (exept on corsas minis etc) QUOTE (TintDude @ Sep 3 2009, 06:38 PM) [*]714356[/*] QUOTE (Tintim @ Sep 3 2009, 11:47 AM) [*]714298[/*] Hey Naughty, Thanks for the PM reference the Touran customer - I can't send PM's at the moment. Hey TD I had just sent a PM then had a message saying I could not send any PM's until a certain time on Sept 3rd - just assumed it would sort itself out. I suppose its about time I became a paid up member or at least do this sponsorship thing that way I could moan when these things happen That's very strange. I'm not sure why it would be doing that, I haven't/wouldn't restrict your PM abilities. The only PM restriction I have here is for new members, they need to have 10 posts. We had an issue with spammers that would register and mass PM members with spam, but aside from that, I've never heard of this problem. If anyone else is seeing this, please let me know and be assured, I've done nothing to restrict PM abilities other than the newbie restriction. I really appreciate your offer to sponsor the forum as it's really needed at this point, not to mention the benefit sponsors get by having a banner linked from the forum. I know many are benefiting from that, so it's a win/win situation. I had it set to one minute after the mass pm spamming situation. I've disabled the flood control so this shouldn't be an issue anymore.
Cool
Thanks - I'll look into this sponsorship thing at work next week.
