Full Version: My first vehicle wrap
I've been thinking about getting into the market of vehicle wrapping so I decided to test my skills by starting on my own car. The car is a 2006 Laser Blue Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharger. The wrap is black with a silver metalic pinstripe. The entire install took me about 12 hours total , 6 hours in 2 days. I'm extremly pleased with the results. I didn't mess up one piece nor did I create any creases or trap any dirt (much better than I can say about my tinting,
What ya think?
looks good from here....
Went out and took some close ups.
As you can see all my edge lines are hidden either under rubber seals, inside body lines or under the silver metallic pin stripe. Unless you open a door, hood, or trunk, it seriously looks like a paint job. I'm quite proud of myself :P NOW.... weather or not it will look this good after this upcomming winter? Who knows... But I'm sure gonna find out.
Dude, that looks awesome....
651 is alot harder to wrap those compound curves than 751 or 851.... Darn nice work!!!!!
That looks friggin SWEET!!!!!!!!! Good job! been wanting to do something like that to one of my vehicles
I'm thinking about getting some carbon fiber vinyl and doing my hood.
looks awesome....

Good luck with that, carbon fiber vinyl doesn't stretch like the colored stuff, it's highly metalized.... Doesn't mean it can't be done, it's just gonna be abitch... It stretches just like regular vinyl when I did my dash trim pieces. I'm also gonna try and do my hood in carbon fiber but I'm gonna get the carbon fiber from Rtape efx and see how that works.
Keep us posted on that...
I didnt find carbon fiber as bad as I thought it would be....i did a bike tank with it once....i wasnt perfect...but did work better with the compound curves than I thought it would.
I did some carbon fiber vinyl on some mouldings, black ones...sides and rear on a ford of some kind...I dont remember...escort...focus...whatever....
could you just print carbon fiber on something like Oracal 3951RA and put it anywhere

Very nice
had a go at wrapping too but just used normal 7 year vinyl. got it all done exept the bumper , then tried some spandex vinyl on it but was going from 1 big curve (lots of stretching) then to a curve in opposite direction. mucked it up in 2 small corners as think it stretched too much. so just sprayed the bumper. would prob have been easier if i had used the proper heat mouldable stuff on the rest of the car. lol no seams all panels done in one piece except for the sill in front of the rear tyre. vinyl wasnt big enough. lol
Nice job man
VERY nice job!!! But cm'on.... you couldve cleaned up the parts wrapped around into the door jam...

Just busten ur ballz. Looks great dood for real!! i was just messin about as some ditty man reversed into the things door so i put a scrap yard blue one on. would love to get into graphics but couldn afford the machine for doin wraps, might get a reasonable price plotter to play with and to learn some more.
hey i live in roseville michigan and am looking to do a wrap on my truck just bought a mimaki 64 inch printer and lots of other stuff, would you be willing to give me some hands on training for a fee.$$$$$
nothing like getting hands on help. let me know. email me at dondirtbiker@gmail.com im serious about this, plan on getting serious about wrapping vehicles , already into this for 10 grand. your ride looks real sweet, nice job, looks like paint just as it should.
hey man, congradulations on the wrap. looks great! how does it hold up after 2 years of that michegan weather? i'm experiementing with a client that wants a matte black finish. I'm about to do a test with 30" 651 with a cast matte laminate over the top. I think i want to get that 751 or 851.
again, nice work!
Dude dont ùse the 651. the 751 is not the right one for a caar roof it will shrink after time ! take the 851 after your install heat it with your heatgun and it will stay in this condition for a looooooong time with no probs at all !
trust me im doin a lot of vinyls on cars and entire hoods and roofs ..... with that film for a long time. for 12 years with oracal and the 851 is propably their best film in my opinion. greetz Michael
