Reduce Contamination from roll up channels

This may be common sense, but I didn't think of it 'til someone showed me . Hose down the insides of the front and back channels with water. fold a paper towel to a good thickness (about 4 times) and wrap a hard card with it. Then Jam it into the channel. Run it up and down in the channel, scrubbing the dirt caked on in there. For really bad channels, you can use a green or white scrubby, then a paper towel. There is a BUNCH of dirt accumulated in those channels, and it will "wick" into your work (That horizontal line of dirt that happens when you least expect it!) This example was from an 04 Malibu, well taken care of!!! Hope this helps!

I have had some really nasty chevy truck windows that I have used denatured alcohol to wipe down the sides to remove all the grime, cleans real fast.

Been doing that trick since day one, I thought it was basically part of the regular prep of every roll up. But I'm sure there's some out there that this will help

I have been reading alot of posts lately about reducing contamination here and there, so I've been trying to think about what has helped me over the years, take pics when possible, and post some USEFUL tips. I got a couple of good ones for getting creases out, but am waiting for an opportunity to get pics. I might have to crease one on purpose tho.....we could be waiting a WHILE for it to happen for real!!

It will clog up the pores( for lack of a better word) of the towel, and make it a lot less usefull

Good tip KW I will also mention not to forget to wipe the top of the roll down glass ethier. That was the source of most of my comtamination in my early days.

That was the source of most of my comtamination in my early days. Yep. Good point. There is a buttload of dirt just resting (and caked) on the top edge. Took me a while to figure that one out. I wipe it real good, but now I NEVER let the top edge of the film overhang the edge of the glass. I lay the film about 1\2" below the edge of the glass and slide it up to where I want it. Takes a bit of practice, but I can get it ALMOST as close as shaved. (you'd need a mag glass to see the gap 98% of the time)
It will dry...

i've used micro fibers, bounty, but nothing works as well as a surgical cloth. its thin enough to fit into even the tightest channels.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
