oh boy, did I stick my foot in my mouth. I had a lady come in with this sc 430. I never done one so I priced low 120.00. what I thought to be a quick easy job turned in to a nightmare first the window had some super water replelint on it. Rain x ant got crap on this. I used evertthing. nothin touched it you could spray the window with almost pure soap and it would hit the window then fall to the floor leavin the window dry, not damp ((DRY))!! then I leared the back windows only go up and down with the top I also learned that the dry shrink method wouldn't work, and the wet shrink was messed up to, because the out side had the same stuff as the inside. Couldn't keep it wet lol. All and all it turn out nice, but it took me from 10am to 345 pm I have not never took that long. I ask the cust. what they used on the widows she said just windex but she has only had the car couple months. I showed the cust what iI was talkin about I took the water hose sprayed the window and as soon as relessed the trigger the window was dry. needless to say she was shocked. my ???? is what the hell is this stuff and dont get me started on the back glass even with the top half way up. the car would realy be not that bad if the STUFF was not on the windows. .

Dude, you need to raise your prices. There is a factory coating on those windows, if I remember correctly it is a film. I vaguely remember a member here mentioning them years ago, I think he attempted to remove the coating and ran into a bit of trouble.

I use AMSOIL's Rain Clear. It's similar to PPG's Aqualpel, but more cost effective.
It works really well, lasts super long.
Let me know if you want to try some.

These guys are 100% on that. Thats the reason that the car part of this industry is going to !!! That car is worth AT LEAST double your regular rate. I don't care if you are using all-metal film or dyed saran wrap, the labor, SKILL, and attention to detail are the same. At those prices, I cant believe you aint COVERED UP for the next decade. Is this your main occupation? Or is this just "Beer Money"? And don't give me the "That's all we can get 'round heah" crap. I got hacks right down the road doing crap for 120.00. I am well over double that, and i turned 2 away yesterday! But then..............Only you know what your work is worth. And, I have run into that s**t on the windows too. I have YET to figure out what it is. There is no rhyme or reason, and it's not vehicle make specific. If YOU figure it out, and figure a way around it, By all means post it!!! That s**t will ruin your day!!

did an sc430 bout 3 weeks ago. just used twice as much film on as i usually do and soaked the film extra, also had help positioning the b/g film to ruduce the amount of slipping required. didnt know about this "coating" untill i went to install it. it only had it on the inside of the glass.
and is 135 for just the back 3??? or all five??? if its for five windows thats cheap, i wont even do it that cheap for a friend out of my house let alone at the shop for a customer...

there's nothing on the glass, it's the glass itself.
the glass has a ceramic coating. Some models are coated on the outside only, some inside, some models both sides (between Lexus / Toyota). The coating is not removable, although you can scratch it with the tip of #9 razor blade - could just be the actual glass scratching though, although the coated versions seem to scratch easier than the uncoated versions.
Llumar issued a press release on this issue in or about 2000, 2001. Stating, in effect, that Llumar will extend no factory warranty to these windows if tinted and they went on to list which models of Lexus and Toyota's the glass could be found on and how to test for it. I don't know if Llumar has rescinded that warranty ban since then.
