Does anyone have suggestions on how to make the dot matrix on the top of the bg look any better other than just plan cutting it off?

can someone please post a pic of the elmers blue gel - I am trying to find a similar product in the UK. What description does it have on the bottle??

Thanks

I use this O'Glue the "big Stick"

here is the gel version.

elmers gel

here is the stick version

glue stick

both will work, the gel is definitely more messy.

i have used elmers, ross, office depot glue sticks and they are all basicly the same.

I have a question for the professionals regarding dot matrix tinting. I had my 01 Mustang tinted last Monday and learned after the fact about the dot matrix issue by surfing this site. The shop I took it to didn't mention anything to me. Clearly they didn't use any of the mehtods for correcting the issue that are found on this site because it looks white, but what's worse is it's got uneven visual lines through the dot matrix area due to some areas sticking better than others. I've got an appointment to take it back to the shop on Monday so that they can see how bad it looks. Are they going to be able to fix the existing tint job or does it need to be stripped and re-tinted? If it needs to be re-done I think I'll have them remove it and take it to someone else that might have a better idea of what they are doing. It's a real bummer because everything else they did looks great.

Thanks for any comments.

it is possible to peel it down at the top and the add the glue and re stick it back into place. but it is tricky and riskey and doesn't always work out,so good luck to you and the tinter both.
VIP tint + glass
get it back there asap and they might be able to save it. if you really want to make it easier for them go buy a tube of the blue elmers school gel and tell them spread this under the tint and squeegee it out. if you show them a new trick they might not have a problem redoing it. tell them this is how other pro's say to do it. just to let you know, the mustang dots even glued do not always turn out perfect, but it will look a lot better than the way it is now.

Thanks for the suggestions. I went and picked up the elmers school gel and took my car to the shop to have it looked at. They have never done the glue trick before but after I told him other tinters are using it they are going to re-do the tint and try it again on Monday. If that doesn't look good he suggested possibly cutting the tint just below dot matrix area as some of his other customers have done. It seems like that would look better than it does now but I wish I could see someone elses car cut like that before we go that route. Thanks again.

havent you guys ever done "dry apply" on the matrix ? after preping, only spray solution below the matrix and dry apply the top portion last.....never fails inot.gif
VIP tint + glass
if they do end up just removing the tint on the matrix section, go to a vinyl decal place and have them put a strip to cover the section not tinted. have them do it on the inside though. some people here do it that way also.

I tried the "dry apply" today on a Mustang. I did not have much success with it. Should I use this method in conjunction with sanding?

blue glue in the bottle never fails. vinyl is just so cheap looking. the only car that i had problems with was the 2 doors accord. stay away from the sticks
FilmBlazer
Just a light application or would you say apply fairly thick? I'll get some tomorrow. I was able to get it to lay much better after an hour or two of drying.

well when using the blue glue, squegee the entire window, matrix and all. get all as much water out as u can. now peel it back, and apply a small bead of glue , about an 1/8 inch thick, on the bottom line of the matrix. while the tint was peeled back, it should have allowed enough time to dry alot of the moisture away. now take a card, i perfer the side swiper, and push from the bottom of the glue line to the top of the glass. i use the side swiper cuz its doesnt leave as many lines as a smaller card will. make sure to catch the excess glue with a paper towel to is doesnt get all over the place. the glue is washable so dont get too made if it falls on something. remember, dont push hard. just put enough presure to force the glue through the dots.

Ok im getting ready to repaint my Mustang and im removing all the glass and while im at it I figured ill sand my DOT Matrix off with like 1500 grit sandpaper and use glass polish to polish the scratches (Will this method work?) and then just flat black around the window..... My question is on the very rear window that has the defroster bars going accross it is there a way to remove those or are those moulded in the glass? I know the rear window is tempered so im hoping the bars arent heat melted into the tempered portion and then have glass over the top of both sides.

Thanks,
Chris

Just my opinion-but if you are gonna go to all that trouble...you should buy a glass without a defroster. thumb.gif

1000 grit sand paper and rubbing alcohol. clean the b/g wet the dot matrix wit soap water, sand the dots up,down, and side to side. after u clean and lay the window put some of the alcohol in ur bottle with the soap and water, spray it on the matrix and let set for 3 min. lays flat down. thumb.gif
