Does anyone here use Distilled or De-Ionized water in their tanks? Know of a dealer in Houston who does. Considering using it for a job with high windows to be done off of a lift where I wanna be sure no one wants us to come back later because they say there are smudges on the film.
VO|TRON
what will distilled or de-ionized water have anything to do with smudges? dont you clean the window after tinting it?
vclimber
It has more to do with adhesion than anything else.

Are they gonna get on a lift to see the "Smudges" or ANY defect, for that matter? hmmmmmmm.gif This is one instance of "Way Up There" being a blessing! sweat.gif sweat.gif

I've been thinking about buying a water distiller.

Until then I guess I'll keep filtering.

Llumar now recommends it, but doesn't require it.

Heck, I wouldn't mind drinking the stuff.

I drink in excess of a gallon of water a day. I read one of those books that says, "drink more water!!" and I'm going with it.

Silver based films, you need to stay away from treated water. Most water softners treat water with salt, a corrosive.

Many years ago I did a house and ran out of my water and had to use the customer's water. The salt content was high enough that the film corroded within 30 days. I had to replace the entire install.

I have never used distilled or ionized water. We carry our own water for installs.

Sometimes even with cleaning you can get leave some smudges on the film (this job will be done at night so it would be hard to see smudges to wipe off) . If the windows are low it's no big deal to just wipe them off later - but don't want anyone to complain later that when the sun shines through from a certain direction they can see some smudges - and could I go back up 30' high to wipe them off.

Get some of this stuff....you'll have No problems...... thumb.gif

For every quart of water you drink you're supposed to add in a pinch of sea salt to keep your electrolytes up. I skip this part since I eat a diet high in salt anyways.

But I wouldn't drink DI water.

Watch out for those water softening systems, they use salt.

I use distilled water. I don't trust filtered water. I buy the 2 gallon jugs at Wallmart for a $1.09. I usually buy about 10 at a time.

and as for me...used whatever tapwater was available at the time. if i could drink it, i could mount film with it. seems to work purty good, 'cause 5 states, 50+tint shops, and 27 years later, it (tapwater) still works! plus you can drink it on yer first self-imposed break (usually after 2-3 cars or 1000 squares, he he)

i'm a lot more concerned w/what i add to the H2O. started out using Dawn™, graduated to Joy™, then, after about 10 er 12 years, began using baby shampoo. i like babies (i have one that i know of, but she's 19 now so, uh, never mind), but i DON'T like that rot-gut stench of schmegmatized windowfilm adhesive. ya know? that godawful stink that surrounds your very being and assaults your moral aptitude/constitutional integrity once you've removed the phlem (autistic slang for failed windowfilm). ooh ooh that smell...can't ya smell that smell? as you probly know, that smell is caused by rotten fruit. dish soap (all) contain citric acid. stanks when it gets exposed. (heh heh...he said "exposed")

babypoo (short for baby shampoo, and not to be confused with actual baby poop) doesn't contain any citric acid that, if injected into the infants eyes can and in fact does, make tears happen. do be aware that real baby poop stanks regardless if ya use RO H20 or not. also know that water is all treated. either with chlorine or alcohol. what? ya think the guy at the RO carwash fills his tanks with french bottled water?

There hasn't been one single drop of fresh (not polluted) water found on planet earth in over 25 years. yet. we haven't lost a single drop. it all comes back around. so, we never need fear going back to the doggy-poo method ever again. hey, whatever happened to that photoshop pic of the doggy-poo install demo? anyone?

My home tap water is very hard and you dont want it drying in the sun because it is a beach to get the spots off.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
