So I own my own shop in MO. Legal on the fronts is 35%. I follow the law and encourage my customers to do as well. So I get pulled over by a bike cop who informs me that He has 16 tickets he wrote that day already for tint and that he knew I was too dark. So he hauls off and meters my window and I'm not sweating it at all. It meters at 28. I calmly say just clean the window I"m sure there's dirt etc on it. He procedes to grab a grese cloth and smear my window with it. He says its a "poly" cloth (which is a ridiculous statement, paper towels are poly cloths too then if they have more than one material in them I digress). I say that its not clean enough and he needs to use a cleaner or something and he procedes to inform me how the meter works with lazers and how they don't need to be cleaned and serviced etc etc. So he gives me a ticket for 28%. I'm gonna contest it and I'm gonna win but its just such a hassle. Friggin cops don't see tint as something to regulate for safety its something for revenue and its bs. I'm tired of these nerd kids that got picked on in HS becoming cops and torturing all the ppl who actually could make somthing out of themselves. I've met plenty of good officers and I respect and admire all of them but there are the chosen few..... the traffic meter maid sons of monkeys that need to learn a little common sense. I'm thinking of filing a complaint against the police dept. because if this little biker turd is writing tickets without taking any factors into consideration then maybe some of my customers that I said were legal "arent to him". That gives me a bad name and may make me lose some revenue with future and repeat customers. I don't know if I'm just wanting to vent or if there was a question in there. I hope your towns have smart level headed officers that are there to protect and serve.

I am not sure how your law works. I know it say 35% on the fronts but is that net? If not then they should take into consideration that every factory glass has some tint to it. 28% is about what it should meter biggthumpup.gif
tintman237
dunno.gif just out of curiosity, what film are you using.
I can tell you from first hand experiance, that madico's CH35 meters out on the glass @ 27% AZ is also 35% law (33%+or-3%) I've had customers get stopped for having 35% film I applied to their windows, that meters @ 27% twocents.gif

no kidding. Thats why florida's law is 28%. I've metered this stuff and on a clean window with my meter it meters 34%. And some older cars have no factory tint. What happens in Illinois when I have factory tint and I get metered to I get a ticket for havin 97%.
rcjello
its sunteck's carbon 35%. I know its gonna meter a little below 35. Heck night time is a factor one state guy told me in florida. I just think if a cop meter's something close to 30 like a 29 etc as long as its over 25 he should have the wherewithall to know that the film is 35% and an effort was made to maintain legality
GeneralTint
If you slide suntek carbon 35% in a meter before sticking it on a window, it will read somewhere around 29%. FYI
tint123
Of course weak batteries in the meter will cause lower readings since it is not pumping out the light it would with new batteries.
Think what happens when a flashlight has weak batteries and they are replaced with new.
I would go to court and have the window squeaky clean, and have the Cop put new batteries in his meter and see what reading shows on the meter at that time.

FYI, Those meters are REQUIRED to be calibrated at regular intervals (Depending on the state) and that certificate of calibration is required to be available at the time it's used if you request to see it.. That cop will have to prove the meter was in calibration at the time he used it, and produce the certificate of calibration from the lab in court (IF you go to court.) dunno.gif

Take the liner off and it will meter 2% higher. But yeah, there is no way that 35% will meter 34% on your car. No way in the world.
Tint Box
Switch to Carbon 45. Should meter somewhere around 37%. twocents.gif

Do not take this as the gospel, but I do believe a clear glass on a say a Chrysler meters at around 92%, a Ford at around 94%. I do not know of a car that will meter 100% or even 99% grinning_and_saying_no.gif I could be wrong, like I said do not take is as the gospel.
micro-edge
Carbon 35 does meter 28 on the glass. Im using it but feel i may have some problems when custy's come to inspection time. I should prolly use the 45 but i hate to... Alot of glass on vehicles today meter 70 with no film on them also.
she tinter
our laws are 27% film to glass it was 35% but after spending over a week lobbying the law yrs back they revised it because it was 35% they didn't consider what was already in the glass luckly they took it into consideration and change to 27% net so most 35 films work here.

Right on the money TTC. thumb.gif Glass is considered "Neutral" density as it supposedly blocks/filters light equally across the spectrum. The color temperature (expressed in degrees kelvin) is the same on both sides of the glass. Optically clear glass absorbs about 6%, making it a 94% VLT. Most MFGRS add a coloring/darkening agent to the glass making it about a 70% VLT (Darkest allowed by federal law for a MFGR)

That's what I would've asked him then....

I'd take it to court for sure, just to make him look like a turd....
Take your meter in with you..... Make sure it's in optimum working order...
I check and calibrate my meter about every month....

In WV our law is a net law also, 35%. I offer carbon 35 and 45, i actually list them as 30% and 40% to my customers, because it is closer to what they will actually read on the glass. I only gaurantee the 45 legal, i had alot of customers asking for 35% then getting upset with me when it wouldn't pass inspection.

Who lobbied to get this law changed? How can we persuade our state to do the same? I think the law should be 35% film, not net, net law sucks!!!
ClassOnGlass
we need new tint laws mad3.gif mad3.gif

re-tint the windows with 50%....take the whole thing to trial..... by jury...... Fbigeyes.gif

Put the system on trial.

alot of suntek users using carbon that ive worked for/spoken to keep the hp35 for the legal film. carbon 45 has to cut it until they come out with a 40 if that ever happens

thumb.gif thumb.gif thumb.gif thumb.gif thumb.gif If only every one would, we wouldn't have these friggin' laws. Apathy is our governments best ally. The ONLY reason they get away with what they do! Ninja-Invisible.gif

try living in a state where the NET is 70% on the front roll ups. yup, sux very much, but we still have people asking for darker film everyday!

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
