Saw a friend at the car show a few weeks ago who said he was tinkering with a newly acquired Chev. Bel Air. I was jealous because I've been wanting one for a few years (either 63 or 64). I'd been keeping an eye on one in Mattoon, IL, but never came to pass.
He called on Saturday, to check if I might want the 63. Uhhhh, YES!!. Has a new gas tank sitting in the back seat. Tuned up, new plugs, fuel pump, battery. Tires on the rallys are dry rotted, but the thin line white-walls on the original steelies are almost new.
We did a 64 Impala interior a few years ago. Got me sparked to really wanting one. THis is a standard Bel Air, but nothing says it has to stay in the original trimmings. Impala Bob's has all the fun stuff to build it up.
Once the rust is fixed (lots and lots in the trunk area as the pics show, even down into frame mount points) I'm thinking resto-custom. Leave the badging and fun stuff on the outside, maybe a two-tone paint job (silver, white pearl, black on the roof, something to compliment down below), sell the rallys and get some 13" 100-spoke wires.
The trunk is huge and can hold about any audio setup imagined. Mix some upholstery and fiberglassed panels (definitely needed to hide the welds that I'll be laying down).
As for interior, going to keep the benches, with some matching kiddie car seats sewn up for the rear. Hmmm, an Impala back seat (make up a clone??) would look bitchin.
CLick on the pic to see a slideshow of the rough and clapped out toy.
