ford f150 rearview mirror

hey, I am sure this has been covered but I am not finding it via search. On the newer ford trucks the rearview mirror is a nasty spring clip that I have removed before, but never easily. I know there is a "pry bar" like tool that Equalizer sells, but I have an issue prying against the glass......
This mirror mount is the one that you can see the spring clip from the outside sticking down past the button.......
any easy way to remove? turned one away today as I am not willing to risk breaking another glass.

it is the spring type system like GM uses on S-10 mirrors, get the tool from Equalizer, you don't need to apply much pressere to the glass to push in the clip. Either that, or run the visor right to the top of the mirror bracket, if using the straight edge of the film, to where you get the drop down on the edges, it will be below the AS1 line anyway

the one I broke had the compass mounted solidly to the base of the mirror and it was in the way, tried to get my mirror tool in there , and POP! Just leave it on.
tintman237
Dec 12 2007, 07:25 AM
the compass is 4 plastic clips, 2 per side about 1/4" in from the edge, comes right off the base then take the above tool and take the mirror off. The first one I tried to take off, I snapped the windshield too, I learned how to remove em after that

If you go to a glass supply house, PPG, LOF etc, they have the tools to remove the mirrors. I still have my set I bought 20 years ago.

yeah this is not the one that can you can just pry off. not the ones where the spring clip wraps over the edges. I just simply pry those with an allen wrench or something similar.
I am scared to death of the Equalizer tool also as it still has to pry against the glass. For those that use that tool, do you not still have to "knock" the mirror up and off?
Oh yeah I do have the thin forked metal mirror tool and it has been a great value.

Yep Ford has 2 kinds the only problems I've with the pop off is when it pops of from the pivit ball. But most slide offs I use a hammer. I learned that from a glass man.(plastic hammer that is) I haven't figured out how to get a Mitsibitsi mirror off? My Ford dealer now sells Mitsi.

I discourage Front Strips as much as possible, and if they have ANY electronics attached, I wont do 'em. Not worth the liability. Even with insurance, (deductable). Pop one windshield and you are gonna do alot of free ones to make up for it. Most cars and trucks come with a pretty substantial strip from the factory anyway.

But if it doesn't come off first try or if their is a rain sensor or something I won't do a front strip.
