That's why I jumped to his defense when wndotint asked about cord marked on the car saying that IF it was an issue covering it was the solution ..if it's NOT an issue ..no worries.. A good observation either way..but trying to keep the focus on the tip rather than picking apart the secondary behind the scenes as many do

One question, Is the second heat gun on a low heat setting? I'm assuming that it would be so you don't wreck the bottom edge of the film or burn the paint

both guns on high, hold the under one back enough to not "melt" or even lay down the film edge (had it do that on Suntek HP 05) the air blowing is one of the main keys. It keeps the film off the window but the heat is a big plus as it warms the film itself to aid in the shrink.
I have my "extra soapy" little sprayer with a pretty high concentration of Film-on in it for those extra tacky windows. I found that I can mist it on the back glass, wipe LIGHTLY, then when it drys it reacts like a dryer sheet or even better without the extra soap film from Mdog's shrink style.
It is very much dry.....
Thanks for the "votes" guys. I should have posted this sooner.....I have been doing it this way for about 2 years....just had not put it out there.

That method looks awesome! I'm definitely gonna try it soon. I've been using the soap shrink for a while, and love it, but that method looks way easier and faster.
I have a question, though.
When you do the top part of the film, it looks like as you reach the top of the window you have to hold the film up and as you finish, it snaps down into place. How do you make sure you don't overshrink it across the top?
lilDetails
Jan 29 2008, 04:26 PM
on the top, it is more of experience with doing it this way. When I get just about to the top of the glass or where I want to stop then I will let it go. It does not take much to make the film lay down on the top like that. The only car that is tough is the 2 door Stratus.....
This shrink will work with dryer sheets, the Mdog Soap, wet, and even powder......or probably any style.

Sorry for coming across as analytical, as some put it. But if I was doing something wrong I would hope someone here would point it out to me.
BTW, there is no such thing as over analyzing this art form. Most of us here are trying to stand out and above the competition. It's the little things that do that. Plus, what's the first part of analyze? Here's a hint: OCD.

I do wana let you all know that lil'D also shrank the top with heat over and under as well on his cavy so this method works top and bottom. Also this is just one mans tech. I personally liked this way of shrinking but still havent got it down. I will say that when you get it right you have very little "puckers" or "distortion" to the film on the outside of the glass. Almost like it is more gentle on the shrink process. I wonder what would happen if LB used 2 torches? Has anyone done this on a non-metal film yet? I bet its really easy on the thinner films.

Lucky, yes..... Beetle has to be shrunk all the way across the top and bottom. The Stratus is just really tight in the top corners.

Awesome tip - I use carbon and ATR so I will have a play.
How about placing some film scraps stuck to the car at the bottom of the screen to absorb a little of the heat - so the paint is not affected?

if you feel you need to put something on there....I guarantee that I don't get the paint hot enough to matter. The heat is simply not on there long enough....

The heat gun is not close enough to get the paint that hot. I can touch the paint when i'm done yet there have been hot summer days when I can't even touch the paint.
