Full Version: cutting film

when cutting the patern for the glass who peels the liner then sticks it on the glass then cuts it out , and then who just cuts the film on the glass with the liner still on, then cuts it out and pulls the liner than apply?

when I started doing this I used to precut everything with the liner on, now it depends on the specific window...
deeper frames if dirty I precut, clean and not deep - stick then cut
I try to opt for the cleaner and faster way to do it

The only pre cutting I ever do is with thicker s/s films like 12mil. dunno.gif

I clean the window, no matter what it is, scrape it, spray it, dry it... I have already cut my pieces off the handler within an inch of excess on either side. After I cut them, rolll them and tape them set them aside the window Im working on. Once everything is clean, undo the tape, pull the liner (S&S) apply the film.

guess we all do it differently.. good luck eyebrows.gif

I usually buy from JWF , they have a pre cut program where they pre-cut per your measurements and they send you individual rolls so all you have to is reverse roll in place and then just trim as needed once is applied. I also had a 4ft x 4ft round window today and I just taped a oversized square piece of film over the round frame and cut out the circle using the round frame as a guide then reversed rolled it in place once the pattern was cut and then did the final trim. From my experience, you get a cleaner install with reverse rolling, exceptions would be very small peices, or very very large windows that requires two people to install anyways.

Nowadays I only precut the super duty old nasty windows and V-Kool (cause it's PS).

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
