Viper And Python Both Shut Down

WOW this is weird, After a year I log on and Bam the problem I am having is the first post I see. So I will start this new post so I dont hijack the other guys.

I have 2 Ford Diesels a 97 and a 06. The One in the 97 is a Viper 791XV and the one in the 06 is a Python, I dont know the number but the remotes are just alike except one is blue and one is black. Now all the sudden Both trucks have this problem, They will start and run for about 10 seconds and Shut off. Then after a few seconds restart. The 97 will do this once and then usuly stay running after the first shut down. A couple times it has went to 2 shut downs. The 06 will Start, SHut doun, Start, SHut Down, Start, SHut Down and stops there and the remote beeps indicating its not trying to start any more. Any Ideas whats wrong with these things?

They used to work Flawless.

ok...

this is a common problems and fords are the biggest pain in the asses to get working right imo.

on the 06 this is what you should do.

(first make sure this is a vehicle equipped with factory anti-grind) basically after the truck is running, try to grind the starter with the key... if it doesnt grind then do this.

Program it tachless, program it with no engine checking one, then program it to crank for 4 seconds.

that one is done.

on the 97 i would personally buy a tach generator, install it, and then hook tach up to it, the only way it is ever going to be 100% imo.

ohh ya i should also add this is assuming it is NOT a bypass problem. if the theft light on the dash is blinking when it tries to remote start your problem is elsewhere so check that first

Ok Neither truck has Factory Alarms so I dont think that is a problem, Why would they start doing this after a year? Would unhooking batterys or unplugging the alarm module have anything to do with it? I mean would it change the programming?

Yes, you need to re-learn the Tach siginal, if the power to the brain was lost, it resets itself, and needs to be re programed beer.gif

i am going to say that they are most likely not even tach'd. when they are not tach'd they rely on the voltage the brain sees in order to "assume" it is running. diesels just act funny when starting and that always leads to problems. so the trucks start, and then they turn off after a couple of seconds becuase the remote start doesnt think it is started.

tbh the ford diesels are nothing but a pita. do what i said for both however and you will be golden.

Have not had a chance to mess with these but I see some thing funny on the 06. If I start is normal and then hit the remote start button twice like I am starting it the it will stay running untill it times out.. if it cant see its running when i remote start it then how does it know its running when i het the button after its running? Seems like it would still shut down wouldnt it?

i understand what you are saying, however it is a completely different set of commands that the unit does a "valet remote start takeover".

it does this takeover when you remote start it after it already sees the ignition is on. i am fairly certain that it bypasses all the engine checking features(that are there to ensure you car actually starts) and merely leaves the ign and accessory powered on for you.

i would have to do a little testing on this but i am fairly certain.

keep in mind, you have to know it is acting different when valet takeover, cause it doesnt grind your starter smile22.gif

diesels are a PITA i have been dealing with these things for a long time, and i can assure that you what i am saying isnt crap.

Oh Please dont think I would think that at all. I appreciate all your help for sure. It just seemed odd it would stay running after the fact. Its also odd that both trucks started this around a year later and both had worked great till then. dunno.gif

i wasnt taking anything the wrong way, i just know how "internet advice" can be so i was just giving a little assurance.

I have a diesel that just will not act right for the life of it early in the morning on cold days so i know how it goes i am doing a lot of experimentation, but the best thing on these ford diesels anymore is a Tach generator.

Although i did just put in an alarm and remote start on a 97 and it is working flawlessly being tapped into the factory tach wire, if you want to give that a shot.

it should be in the harness coming from the engine bay into the drivers side underdash a white pink wire there.(it is directly to the left of the brake pedal)

I took the 06 in to Car Toys and they said it was setup wrong and in 10 min had it working. I am going to take the 97 back to where it was installed and tell them about the wire you talked about.
It sure is nice to have the 06 workin again. Thanks again for your help.

excellent. they probably did the programming i listed above, at least i hope they did, it is so fool proof for these trucks.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
