Viper 791xv has gone crazy! Please help!

I own a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel truck. I've owned it 2 years now and it came with the Viper 791xv already installed with the 479v remote. The alarm has worked great without any problems until the past week. I usually use the autostart every morning because its been so cold out. I noticed a couple of mornings that it would start fine and then die after a few minutes, and then yesterday, it would not start at all with the remote. The remote just beeped 3 times like it was out of range. So I went out and started it manually with the key and went back inside to let it warm up. When I went back out after about 5 minutes, the doors were locked, and I had left it unlocked (thank goodness we have an extra key inside the house). So when I got to work, I realized the remote wouldn't work at all to unlock/lock/arm or disarm. It would only beep 3 times like it was out of range. And it again automatically locked the doors after I got out. Also, today while I was driving it started making a "clicking" noise & the status light in the windshield that shows the alarm is "armed" was flashing. I would have to stop and turn the truck off and on a couple of times to get it stop clicking. I assume the doors locking (which is only happening intermitently) is the passive arming feature (which it has never done before yesterday). I do not want the passive arming on my truck because I know I will lock the keys in there.

So I got home, took the battery out of the remote for a few minutes and unhooked the brain of the alarm for a few minutes. Then put the battery back in the remote and hooked the brain up and tried to re-program the remote (open door, key on, push valet button 8 times & hold on the 9th) but the alarm did not chirp 8 times, and when I pushed the lock button on the remote, it would just beep 3 times. Also, the valet led light is not coming on at all no matter what I try. So i've done everything I can think of. Any advise would be GREATLY appreciated!! I'm hoping to avoid having to pay someone to look at it if at all possible. I'm just a little leary because when we bought the truck, the remote that came with it wasn't working and we took it to a local car alarm place and they charged us $200 for a new remote. I later discovered I could get them for much cheaper!! I think my alarm has gone crazy on me dunno.gif

your doing the reprogram sequence wrong. open door turn on ignition press valet once then hold and press the lock button once for a chirp then once more to confirm. I've seen it on a few 791 and the matrix that the alram will erase the code of the remote. The way I remedy this is disconnect power to the alarm to reset and it will work for a month or two then you'll have to do the same thing again. Its a manfacture defect in a few models like 2 out of a hundred alarms.

i had a problem with my 791 starting my ford ranger.. it wouldnt start with the remote, after a little peeking i was told the pats bypass module had to be close enough to the column to pick up the chip. not sure if yours has a chip in the key or not but may be something to check

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
