Got a request for one today. I've never done tinting on any Subbie. How bad are the 99 back windows?
Easy like a Fusion or a PITA like the Mazda 6's?

I've been tinting for around 2 years....and really I haven't ventured out to do too many cars that I'm not familiar with. I've done every Ford from 2000 + though...

I take it that its a sedan and not a wagon. The window might look like its a tough one, but its not bad at all. Nice flat border around the rear glass too (no dots at all) so it looks great when done.
great! I'll be giving it a shot regardless of how hard or easy it is, but I'd like to know exactly what I'll be up against.

Ok, guys. I got it completed in the first try yesterday evening. It wasn't too bad, but it did try to pinch and crease on one of the last fingers. Luckily, I was patient and got it to lay down right.
It pushed my novice skills a little bit, but I'm glad I got it. The guy was super happy and best yet, I not only made a few $$ for tinting, I made a few $$ for pushing out a dent on his other car. (I'm a PDR guy also). It was a good sunday! dave.
Hi guys, I know this is a really old thread but i am new to the forum and have been having troubles with this car!had it in this morning and tried to do the rear window several times without any joy. Have only been tinting for about 3 months and this is by far the hardest i have come across. When shrinking there seems to be an excessive amount of film at the top corners that is hard to split in to multiple fingers due to the way the film pulls around the corners. Eventually got the shrink right and managed to get it inside, top half goes effortlessly but cant help getting creases in the bottom corners! As Dave said in this thread it really pushes the noob skills lol. Has anyone got anymore advice, like is it easier to take out the shelf to get more room to play with? Thanks in advance
How are you shrinking it? and what film are you using, is it a classic shape scooby or the newer one?
It's not hard to do it. Easy car. Love it
Have been using the dry shrink method with solargaurd film, the scooby is the classic shape 4dr. It may be easy for experienced tinters but i am still learning and only on my 7th full tint!!
Did one of these on saturday, he had 6x9 speakers on the back shelf very close to the glass so i pulled the rear shelf on that one. Easy to do 2 bolts to take the rear bench seat out, three bolts to take the back upright part of the seat out. Pull the rear shelf back out the way. If it has the rear wiper 3 bolts in the boot, take the wiper arm off, undo the big nut then its out the way totally and makes it easier all round. Hope that helps
Thanks for the quick reply, i was upfront with the guy and offered to pay his fuel for the wasted time. He was fine and is letting me have another go this weekend, going to bug me till i get it right! He is going to drop it off with the seats and shelf out as he has been toying with the car anyway. Most of the problems were in the bottom corners as the access isn't brilliant so this should help. Hope so because it was a real confidence knock after 3months of successful tinting =)
With the shelf out you will have more room i take it your reverse rolling the install easier that way?
Yeah reverse rolling it to get it in didn't seem to bad, think i just need to work more water out the bottom with hands before squeegying which will be easier with more room to get in, think this may be why i was getting the creases.
These rear screens on the Impreza and very curved and downunder I would have lost count on how many of either had to retint or strip off due to the film "giving up the ghost." Films from all walks of life!
The film wants to revert back to its original shape and many a screen I've seen with 10" fingers let go from the centre into the middle. If you have to do them in one, then relief cut the finger on the sides which should stop it from popping later down the track. Devil
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
