Full Version: about to do my first flat glass commercial
understand tools differ from automotive. technique similar. what will i need to know before doing this job? just making sure all my ducks are in row. much thanks.
Clean with 6inch scraper, squeegie just before applying film, wet entire window except for top 4 inches, wet top 4 inches of rolled up film, reverse roll down. Anchor in place with middle swipe, sqeegie down the middle then from middle to about 3 inches of the edges with a yellow turbo. cut corners to ease tension, final cut with edger (1mm or less). Final squeegie to get excess water out then bump the edges with hard card wrapped in paper towel. If you want to pre-cut about an inch bigger than the window the night before to save time at the jobsite you can do that, but alot of people just cut out of the box on site. It is also easier to cut the width about an inch bigger than the window with scissors when it is all rolled up right before you reverse roll.
hey, that's why i got into this biz. around here, i am the pro.
(Matthew @ Mar 2 2008, 08:20 PM) [*]599336[/*] all metal 2 pane. 101 spuare feet of glass. not a huge job. but, my first. biggest windows are 5x5 or less. should be able to do it alone hopefully. seems it may always be good to have an extra hand though. thanks for reverse roll instructions. what should i use for slip solution?
PS adhesive... detac.... You're speaking Japanese to me man. I ordered Stainless Steel 35 from SolarGard, 6 inch scraper, and a wider squeegee. What am I missing? And this is scheduled for tomorrow.
Youre asking us what you need to install the night before...ooooh myyyy
(Cuttingedge @ Mar 2 2008, 10:01 PM) [*]599356[/*] Youre asking us what you need to install the night before...ooooh myyyy Trust me, i know. Closed the deal on last thursday. order still on the way. i'll bet i can work it out though. will i need a slip solution with this kind of film like one with auto?
I usually use film on but you can use johnson and johnson. Dont worry it is alot easier than auto fo sho. In fact you may quit doing auto once you do FG....less work mo money

If you have never even seen anyone do flat glass then I hope you have plenty of film. The edge cut is not super easy to get right esp in the corners! Take your time and you will get it.
Call me if you have any direct questions while doing this job....hopefully I can talk you through it! (Tint Girl @ Mar 3 2008, 03:41 PM) [*]599569[/*]
you should have a five way tool also you can get one from home depot or lowes in the paint or wallpaper isle great for trimming on the glass leaves a nice clean gap from the edge's....also you will need to bump your edge's with a hard card and paper towel very important .... while squeegeeing make sure you push and dont pull...and over lap your squeegeeing by have
And squeegee good and hard with an overlapping pattern with a slight angle.
Leave no water behind.
Maybe practice on your house windows first to get the hang of those coner cuts can be tricky at first for some
(Reflection68 @ Mar 4 2008, 05:56 AM) [*]599875[/*] Maybe practice on your house windows first to get the hang of those coner cuts can be tricky at first for some is there a trick for making the corners perfect... or just go at it slow and easy?
