Help me with choosing right tint for my needs.

Don’t ask me why, but I must use fully tinted windows.

The requirement for the ting fills are:

a) Good ratio – “dark from outside, visible well from inside”

b) Black or close to black color

c) High quality: no any kind of distortions, highlights and reflection inside, good covering with anti- scratch.

d) Darkness 5% better, 15% worse, but still ok.

e) Armor effect, to prevent hooligans getting inside

So what tint will be best for my requirements? I personally chose LLumar ATR05, but it doesn’t feat point “e”. The other film i am thinking about is LLumar SA15CSRPS8, it’s not that dark but feat point “e”. But I think that armored film will lose in point “a” to non armored one (or not?). I also heard that Suntek Carbon 05 is good, using other technology, but is it better than Llumar, especially in points “a” and “c”? I don’t care much about GPS and mobile phone.

As the end: the best film for me will be 5%, armored, black, with perfect vision from inside of the car. Please, hell me to choose one, which close to these parameters.

And what can you say about other brands? Somewhere I heard that 3M films are best.

Well, to play devils advocate here, ask him what state he's in, what type of vehicle it is, and if he has a medical exemption due to the fact that he put his age at 88, for starters, but I'm sure this will go the way they all do
GG Allin
I am outside of USA. My car is saab 9-5 with original glass (a bit tinted to green by factory).

damn. thats alot to ask for. this guy v-tint does that alot. not sure about what film he uses. but i dont know about the back glass. i dont thing that "armor" tint that u speak of would be able to form the shape of the rear glass.

you are going to get a bunch of mixed answers on that. every tinter has his or her own preference when it comes to brand. but all brands have kinda a good/better/best line of film with in there brand. just look at the info and warranty info and decide which one fits your needs best. as for vlt%.you just have to look at your local laws and decide what you want from there.

Yes, I understand that. I want to listen some opinions, so I will be able to choose right. Atm I stopped on LLumar SA15CSRPS8 all round, contacted local tint shops and they are ready to make it on back window. And ATR 50 on Air windows.
VIP tint + glass
i like llumar and 3M. my car has green glass as well, and i didnt like it so i put 3M on. 3M is a little bluer than the llumar which kind of cancelled out the green. but 3M 5% feels thinker and softer than most films so it isnt as clear looking out. in my opinion the llumar ATX line is very clear looking out and will not not interfere with signals. the ATX even looks clearer than the ATR because it has a brighter greenish look from the inside. its kind of hard to explain but it does. as far as security, standard 1.5 mil tint will hold the glass together but people can still pry through it. security film will prevent prying through, but then they can just press the whole window in. its actually easier and safer to just push the window in than to break a hole in the glass and reach in.

basically if you have regular tint the robber will have to put his hand through a hole of glass cutting his arm up. if it has security film on it he can just push the whole window into the car without cutting himself at all. poeple use security film on cars for car jacking and smash and grab jobs WHILE you are in the car driving or at a light. if your cars parked overnight or something, theyre getting in no matter what.
GG Allin
Is it something new? it is something like carbon serries from sun tek?
i cant find this film here - http://www.llumar.com/inteng/PDF/auto%20spec%20sheet.pdf

Why is tht PDF chart so different from this one which is on the Llumar web site. All the ATR's VLT are different.

http://www.llumar.com/na-eng/Automotive/auto-safety.html

I checked the 2nd video from the link and it looks nice for me. Will I get such effect only with LLumar SA(8 mill) and SC(7 mill). But why can’t I find SA series in latest pdf?

http://www.llumar.com/PDF/English/LLumar%2...et%20-%20NA.pdf

Is this film out of production or what? Are there any alternatives?
darkdan
Depends on where you are in the world. The US hasn't gotten a lot of the safety and security films yet.

Why not get a layer of 8 mil applied and then a second layer of whatever solar control film you wanted. This way you get the best of both worlds.

And don't put 5% on the front windows.
GG Allin
I think i don’t need second layer, since SA 8 mil with 15% will be enough for me, many people not advising to use 5%.

And on AIR window I want to put ATX film. Which % shall I put to make car much less visible from outside? Will ATX 50% be enough? What is the lowest film% value for AIR window for comfort driving with xenon headlights at night?

p.s. In my location i found only SA 4 and 8 mil, but no ATX yet.
darkdan
Lowest for windshield? none in my opinion. Think of it this way, would you intentionally make your headlights half as dark?

There is no ATX safety film yet.

You'd have to do what I suggested and get a layer of 8 mil and then a layer of ATX over it.
GG Allin
Yes but on daytime sun is really annoying, when it strikes over the air window. I am going to use tinted 8 mil SA series 15% all round (I can’t get an idea, why should I use 2 layers of film, if 1 layer will do everything I want). And for air window I want to use regular ATX film 50%, since as far as I know every air window got safety film between glass pats, by default. So I am not sure that safety should be putted to air window.
darkdan
You originally said you wanted 5%, since they don't have an 8 mil 5% you could (if you later decide on 5%) go with a layer of 8 mil and a layer of 5%.

Or if you decide to not go with LLumar you could go with a layer of 8 mil and whatever other film you wanted.

Or if you wanted 4 mil or 8 mil on your windshield and since they don't have ATX 50% 8 mil.....you could go with a layer of 8 mil and a layer of 50% ATX.

If you decide on a product that is both and one will do everything you want then you don't have to worry. But two layers can be used to give you more options in case you want something else.

There is a huge strength difference between the very thin layer of PVB in a laminated windshield and a layer of 4 mil or 8 mil.
GG Allin
Ye I firstly wanted 5 all round and 35 air, but now after many comment I want less extreme variant – 15 and 50

1. Does llumar SA or SC(colorless) secure films got metalized part? (like ATR)
2. Are there any bad affects because of using 2 layers of different film?
3. Shall I ask to put 2 layers of film in the same time? Or shall I put secure film and wait 1 week then put other film?
GG Allin
And one more question:
4)If I put safety film, then dark film, will I be able to remove only dark film after 1 year?
darkdan
1.) Both are metal free. The SA15CSRPS8 has about 40% heat rejection.

2.) The second layer tends to not want to stick as well, but usually isn't a problem. Obviously the manufacturer's warranty is voided.

3.) Yes, same time.

4.) Maybe, maybe not. Sometimes the second layer will peel right off with no problem since tint doesn't like to stick to tint, but sometimes it sticks well enough to rip off the first layer's scratch resistant coating.
GG Allin
Thank you for answers, now I’m sure that I will use only 1 layer because of 2 and 4.

The only thing is that I want to know – how will SA15 and SA50 @ wind window look from outside and how good will I be able to see from inside comparing non secure film like ATX or at least ATR. If someone used both SA and ATX with same %, please give me a small compare. Also photos of SA film are welcome (never saw pictures of such film on car, only ATR \ ATX \ AT).
darkdan
Photos won't do it justice. Ask to see the film in person at the place you're having it installed.

I believe the SA looks VERY similar to the rest of the LLumar products you've mentioned.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
