Question about using plotter for film

I just have a simple question about my plotter, I bought it about a year ago and it is a Gerber fasttrack 40". For some reason when i put window film in it and go to plot something it don't always cut all the way through, and if you add pressure it cut to much and all hell breaks loose. Can somebody please help with these problems, I use the plotter for vinyl and have no problems at all. Now the backing is a plastic strip the is in a groove, i was thinking that is ther problem but i have no idea.

thank you

check how far the blade labeled for "tint" is sticking out.only the very tip of the blade should be coming out of the holder for tint.

its just supposed to cut through the tint part, not all the way through
can you peel the excess tint off and leave the liner? if so then its working
the way it should

Your problem is the ditch you have dug with your blade over time in the cutting strip. Flatten it, sand it, heat it, sacrifice a chicken if need be but get it flat. And remember it is the thickness of the tip of a razor blade so look close (thats look close, look close, look close) . I use a chizler on mine to help smooth it in or i replace it when I can't smooth it.

What is happening is the same as stretching a bedsheet over a ditch. Push down in the center and with nothing underneath the plastic , being plastic and having plastic properties, deforms and gives way to the pressure of the blade. Now, not have cut the film you increase the pressure to the puncture point and all hell breaks loose.

One thing remember- when you learned to tint and at first you had to get a grasp on how small the dirt and debris could be and still cause a problem when the tint went on? Now draw a parallel to that with this plotter and think of how small the cutting area is and how precisely the blade is controled. It is so small you can't really even see it. So like learning to clean, I learned to use a magnifying glass to inspect my machine. It is yet another tinting skill....

Good luck

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
