Guys, I need some serious help, myself and a mate paid £1000 for some absolute Di*khead who thought he could teach us, we came home again, bought Johnson Window Film, a 60" x 30M roll of dark smoke, light smoke and limo, and not to mention the £200 worth of tools also, so we spent near £2000 each, and we cant seem to get it right no matter what, cutting is a problem, and shrinking is a big problem, we just cant do it, can someone please explain the best way to cut tint? like.. do we use the rubber seal as a guide line for the scalpel blade or will we take off door panels and all rubber seals? and also where shrinking is concearned, cant seem to shrink the tint without overheating or creasing the tint, and wehn we do finaly manage to get an actual window tinted, it looks rough and unprofessional, and then bubbles appear a few days later, need some serious help, anyone any suggestions/help/advice????
very very very very (cant express how) much appreciated

you can also look on youtube, but i would caution you that not all that you see there isn't the proper method. there are some vidz that should help you get your chops up but in the end technique is all you.

That is a great offer and I would take it only for the fact that i live in Ireland and its a bit too far to travel, I found a guy on this forum in Ireland who is going to start up training very soon, so i will most likely be taking a course with him. thanks anyway guys, appreciate it alot.

Who in Manchester are you looking at being trained by?
I generally tint with door panels in place - no removal.

I generally tint with door panels in place - no removal. the guy seen us coming, they dont train people, they just tint and do graphics, car wraps etc, we left knowing some of the basics mainly, we wern't taught f*** all basically, having some problems with cutting the tint to the exact size of the side windows, they showed us how they do it, unclip the top of the door panel and use a bone stick to pull the bottom rubber gasket up a bit so the tint can tuck under it, and roll down the window about a inch to cut the top of it to the exact fit, then when they install it they left the tint about 5mm gap from the top of the window, but we cant seem to cut it along the side of the window using the rubber seal as a guide line for the scalpel, because it wont tuck properly at one side after we cut it because it seems to be that few little mm too big, and then shrinking on the side windows, disaster!!! they showed us that the way they done it was to anchor the soapy wet tint onto the soapy wet window after sliding the film into place, they started using the hard card from the middle of the window working outwards, then any fingers that were at the sides of the tint, the pulled them into the window and used the hard card to push them to the top and bottom, removing all the fingers through the top and the bottom of the window using the heat gun to make the fingers curl and take a squiggly shape before finally using the hard card over them and sometimes divided some of the fingers in half before removing them, when we finaly get the tint cut to the perfect size, we end up making a dogs dinner out of the tint by either over heating it or creasing it, and this mainly happens at the sides of the window :(

also 3 day course, lmao, mines was wed, thurs, fri and no one told me friday they close at 1pm so technically it was a 2.5 day course. cost me just over a grand plus the accomadation, tools tint etc they sold me at the end. total joke.

tintmeup- unfortunatly there is no-one in the world that can turn you into a tinter in a week, i have never been on a course in my life, i learned everything from this site and just through sheer determination and practise, and of course withe the help of diamond tints, naughtydog and the other helpfull guys on here, i have now been tinting for about 6-7 years and own and run my own shop for the last 3 years tinting for bmw, audi, volvo, vw, hyundai, nissan, renault, ford........ YOU CAN DO IT JUST KEEP AT IT!!!! i have lost count of the times i felt like i would never get there and wanted to give up, you just have to keep plugging away,
(btw one of the best courses out there that i now of is run by a guy called tim- ultimatetinting.co.uk he's not cheap but prob about the best teacher out there in my opinion and a great guy 2, if he cant teach you no-one can!!)

Theres no way im giving up, and i know that i could learn fully through this site, but the amount of tint id waste practicing is gona cost alot, so if im going to be out on big money,i may aswell take a course and do it right, i can tint to a certain extent, its just heat shrinking that i find most difficult, i know after a while il get the hang of it, but for now il keep practicing and im looking for a course to take, and theres so many different people offering amazing deals, but ive found one that i will most likley be taking in the near future, il also check out that site mate, cheers for the great reply mate appreciate it thanks alot

Don't want to rubbish particular parties but the 3 day course I took with tim really was not that great. Took another route with another company about 2 months after, learned how to tint without panel removal at all ,soap shrinking, and could do a clio & beetle in one piece under 15 mins, there was no comparison. Will pm the details to you
For now i using these skills and have paid much dividend for me on a daily basis. Just do you homework well before taking any bad courses and wasting alot of money. Because they are the most expensive they are not always the best especially when they tell you to use the worst material that fades within 3 months.

Just want to say that I would also recommend Tim at tint school. He takes his courses very seriously and you'll come away knowing more than the basics. But as Tim says himself it's still all about practice, practice, practice! I'm also very new to this, which is purely a bolt on to an existing business. And as you, I've lost count of the times I've thought bugger this, I'll stick to what we do. But I'll keep at it and I'm slowly getting better. Although it might work out cheaper to change my wife's Laguna after the amount of film I've used "practising" on that rear screen, she must have the cleanest rear screen in Wales!
