It's the law. What can ya do?? I know many NY tinters and they put whatever they want on, However, I know of one shop upstate that got raided by the PD and the TV news in a sting. They got fined. The law in most states deems it illegal to HAVE certain tints on a vehicle. In NY, i believe it states that it is illegal to INSTALL the film. This leaves the INSTALLER responsible.......and on the hook for costs, should a smart customer actually read the law!!!

Fortget the article I want to see the other half of that cartoon you have in your avatar. woowoo.gif lol2.gif

Would that also mean that when I put off road exhaust on a mustang as a kid all the tickets I got I could take back to the place who installed them and would have been there responability?

Aside from misinformation

New York dealers and manufacturers should be out there fighting this.

Predictably, Mr. Tabachnick, whose customers now sign a waiver exempting him from responsibility (or their ire) if their windows draw police scrutiny, is not a fan of the crackdown.

So what the he!!, he is going to do it anyway. That paper is not worth wiping your backside

jeff has the biggest tinting buss in ny he should get something going to change the law in ny twocents.gif
Tinitman
Why depend on just one person?

Everyone in that state should be banning together to change things
ClassOnGlass
your right we need some of the big guys to step up and we will all follow and back them with support they have more $$$$ to get it started
Tinitman
It takes one person to start something. That person reaches another with a common cause and it snowballs from there.

Ban together and start flooding you state representatives and senators with mail and phone calls. Get the IWFA involved and any other organization.

Also any other person outside the state can contact those state polititions. It takes involvement and numbers to get awareness and change.

This is what happened here in Texas. A few years back there was a proposal to ban tinting all together. Many of us banned together and just bombarded the polititions with mail and phone calls. People met with the representative rsponsible for this and the last word I heard was call off the wolves(us). End result we are still in the tinting business.

This sounds very similar to the UK.

The real problem here is those companies willing to put very dark tints on Front side windows. On saturday I de-tinted a customers front side windows - they had a VLT reading of 5.2% you could not see in. The Customer had just bought the car and said he would dig out the invoice for the company that installed the tint.

If everyone fitted 50% or higher and nothing else (on fronts) - this problem would go away overnight
ClassOnGlass
so all new york tinters lets step up and do something lorenzo johnny tint me jeff clearview and so lets step up and make a change

50% is still illegal. So who decided your limit would be 50% and why?
FRANK
I agree with you Joe D. we need to get together and do something. We all know that if we had to survive by putting on 70% we might as well close shop. I think we need to educate them and perhaps demonstrate the different shades of film. As Jeff mentioned in an article, I wouldn't mind them changing the law to at least a 45% just like the Carbon series that Suntek makes. NY is always looking to blame someone or something. Ever since those 2 cops got shot pulling over an SUV with Dark tinted windows they have come down on the rules of tint much harder. Hey Joe if all else fails we can move to CT at least there they allow 35% thumb.gif

conn here we go thumb.gif thumb.gif

U R right 70% is the legal limit. Given that I lose business to local companies who go as dark as the customer wants - I'm not about to divulge how I sell to customers and the legal recourse I back it up with.

OH GOD!!! Lets not p1ss anyone off, for christs sake!!! Leave the status quo alone!!!
How about bringing the wrath of righteous indignation down on them for enacting unreasonable and !llegal laws????

And they'd be in WORSE shape how??

The re-ocurring theme here is simple.....Tinters in states where the laws are strict, having to do what they must to support their families and people ouside of those states judging them. The hard truth is, to survive, they must go opposite the laws in their state. I do not fault them for this. Until I am in their shoes, I will not be this quick as to judge them. Someday, thew laws in most of the rest of the states will catch up to NY and then we will see what their 'judges' here have to say. I am sure attitudes would change should this happen. They are not selling handguns to gang bangers, or explosives to terrorists. Just installing window film. Or did I miss the part where the terrorist took over a plane with a roll of film?????

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
