Full Version: SunTek Hp

I have been trying out different films lately and I like the SunTek HP pretty good but I was wondering if anyone here who has been a long time user of it had any problems with the longevity of the film especially in terms of turning purple and other film failure problems say wtihing 5, 7, 10 years. Not sure how long it has even been around. If you have been a long time user of this brand any input will be appreciated. Thanks
big money
two years with the hp, no problems, switched recently to just the carbon, and hope it lasts, as you do

it shrinks better than the omega plus, but not as clear, twocents.gif

Yeah that was a helpful thread TintWizard, Thanks!

there was one guy who mentioned he had a problem with it turning purple but most everyone else seemed to like it. I am still a little concerned about the purple thing though

When I started my business I used the same film that the shop I worked at before used just because I liked it and for no other reason but as it turned out luckily it was also a durable film which helped my reputation and has taken my busines to the level of where it is now. I guess I am trying to be as thorough as possible and at this point I dont want to rely on luck to find a film that wont turn purple or some other nasty problem down the road.

How is Suntek when it comes to setting you up as a new dealer? Customer service, volume, etc.?

Ive been using ST since 02. I am having problems with doors peeling, some rolls are hazy and some are not, 75% of all my BG's are ghosting, and I cant wipe it with a shammy without scratching it. The only consistent problem I have though is the scratching. You can not look at the film wrong without scratching it. They say they have never heard of anyone having this problem, are they right?

Although, film companies are like cellular companies. They ALL suck, you just have to choose what problems you wanna deal with and try and be happy about your decision.

We quit ordering the HP and are currently just using the Carbon because the HP seems to scratch really easy and we just got tired of fighting it.... thumb.gif

Carbon seems fine tho..

We have been using suntek since 04 we changed to the carbon about a year ago we like the look better than the HP orngbiggrin.gif

I've been using the Suntek HP Charcoal for over 5 years now and have not had a single car come back for any warranty issues. That has to be the longest track record out of my 19+ years in business. I love the color of the charcoal and actually prefer it over the Carbon. Also the heat rejection is greater too. I have noticed the film is easier to scratch than before. Maybe they are doing something with the hardcoat. I will mention it to them on my next order.

anyone else heard they released a hp40% a couple months ago or was I fibbed to dunno.gif

Why would they release a HP40% when they already have 50%, 35%, 30%, 20%, 15% and 5%? They should release a 70%.

is the HP CHARCOAL too green?

ASWF films have exactly the same film dunno.gif for cheaper uh.gif

They sent me a sample of the HP40 about a year ago...

When I metered it out of the box it actually metered darker than my HP38 out of the box Flaugh.gif

silly but does'nt it get just as hot there as it does in Arizona, do people not want a high heat rejection film to repell the heat dunno.gif

mention all you want I'm not sure WHO they will lisnen to seems to me all they care about is selling film, where's there R&D department to see how the film is really acting and not relying on just a few tint shops who get the deal on buying the film, they should address the problems maybe we need to talk to Steve the Prez of the place and tint his fighter plane and when he asks why the film is scratched or why there is a line going across it under the film or why there are glue splotches under the film maybe then he will get to the bottom of the problem since nobody eles will dare bring up any problems with him...........................

oh yea, my van I had before had the hp on it with no color change or any problems and this thing was out in the sun and outside 24/7 its still on the road as an electrical van but the tint looks great and it was applied in 2000......35-05%
Tintologist
I thought the film was great back in 02. I have only been having problems for the past year or two. I have notices big changes in the scratch coating and changes in the liner and adhessive as well.
cartek
ya the carbon i love but i can scratch it if i fart too close to the tint it seems
carolinatinter
sr coating does seem like it has gone to %&$# over the past 4 years and i just did a removal on a vehicle done in hp15 and it was the biggest nightmare stripping the back glass. delaminated and purple like hell
flat rock stan
When did the soft scratch coat start? dunno.gif
carolinatinter
about a year ago or so
cartek
as far as Hp is concerned, Suntek themselves say that it will eventually fade, they also say that you should not have that problem with carbon.
tintshopky
i'm using the hp line now. seems a little green to me. love working with the film though. if i switch to carbon, can i expect a blacker or more charcoal look? i love a smooth black effect rather than the greenish hue.

I guess for the states that have a 32% NET for front roll downs, there 35% was hitting around 28-30. So for all the states out there that have a 32% net the hp 40 is the way to go thumb.gif. Its hitting 35-39% all day long on those front roll downs that already have 71-73 vlt. I agree they should also release a 70%, heck they should come out with a ceramic line already dunno.gif

IMO the hp & carbon are really similar in color, the carbon lacks the reflectivity as it has no metals. I like the hp & the energy rejection.
carolinatinter
if you think the hp looks green, you definitely dont wanna switch to carbon

I have been using the HP for about 6 years. I really dont have problems with it. Im not sure what the scratching problems are about I dont have that problem. I think it handles well but will fade over time. Not super fast but it will. The price is right, adhesive grabs well. Only problem I have had is an ocasional "pucker" through the roll from the factory. Small half inch or so blemish every wrap through the roll. They replace it at no charge but it sucks when you get one. Also....I have seen a pattern related to roll ups pealing at the bottom. Cars done when temps are at or near freezing never bond correctly. Yes they dry but not correctly. If I have a car come back peeled up at the bottom of a rol-up....sure enough the original install was done with very cold outside temps. So I dont tint after Nov.1st anymore.

I would NEVER NEVER NEVER stand for a brand of film that I couldn't use for certain months of the year. I was thinking of switching to SunTek until I read this thread. grinning_and_saying_no.gif
