Full Version: When i pulled the Olfa out of my hand....
Had a call from the local Ford dealership, "their" tint company had left a massive hair in a rear rolldown on a Fiesta and the custy wanted it sorted. The company hadnt been that helpful to sort it out so i get a call out the blue to help them out. No probs i went to the custy direct booked him in for today for a strip and re tint. Whilst getting the old tint off i raised the side of the old tint with my Olfa blade which i had in my hand as i pulled the old tint off, which was very tough until the adeshive gave way and my right hand with the olfa flew accross to the left. This sudden movement came to a sudden halt when the Olfa blade (2 and a half clicks out) embedded in the fleshy part below my thumb on my left hand! Now i thought "bugger" as i pulled the blade out, hey no bleeding....then it poured out everywhere! Now i have blood pouring out everywhere, a half stripped window on a job that i need to get done. Paper towel wrapped round hand, taped on with black insulation tape, but the blood still leaked out, then i slipped a surgical glove over the whole lot taped it around my wrist, to stop the blood running back down my arm and got the job completed. A good job! then went to the hospital to get it stitched then down the Ford dealers to tell them i had sorted out the problem, they were impressed with my determination to help them out. Im sat here typing one handed and have just had a call from the dealers asking if i can tint a car for them next week....looks like i may have their work coming my way now, so its not all bad....still hurts though
yikes, sounds like that hurt like hell, keep some duck tape around, rip off a piece, and wrap around that cut, it will seal up that cut/gouge real fast and it will heal faster
It could have been worse and hit your wrist.
Purple heart.

I cut the tip of my middle finger off while cutting some vinyl for a guy at the shop several weeks ago.. they weren't to impressed with blood all over their white vinyl decals lol
Those olfa cuts bleed like hell! Mr P is real bad about leaving his knife open a couple of clicks. The other day, at a residential job, I reached into the tool box and came out with one stuck in my hand. Did not hurt much but bled like a biotch! And of course she had a VERY expensive rug

in 92,, the first year i started tinting,,, i was cutting a yellow squeege in half... cut thru 3/4 of it, then folded it and cut from the top.... thru the squeege, and across the fingers, under the knuckle on my left hand.... didnt feel it but the blood gushing all over gave me a clue something was wrong,, off to emergency... had a doctor sew me up,, cut tendons...he did a great job,, was in a cast for 8 weeks, that summer.. i called it the year my wife learned to pinstripe.... hard to hold a roll .... lol.... my dexterity is better in that hand, than my right,,, but not interested in the self-elective surgery.....

Before Triumph scrapers were available I used a standard 4" scraper>While on a ladder at a house I dropped the scraper. On its way down SLICE down my calf.My first reaction to grab paper towels and wrap it using film trimmings.I then climbed back up the ladder to finish the job.A couple of minutes later the customer walks in says"what happened to your leg?"I say"it is cut,but don't worry I am ok".He says " DID YOU GET BLOOD ON MY WHITE CARPET".My thoughts were you are a real DIC!.Still can see the 4" scar.
was cleaning flat glass, silacone was 1/2" thick. olfo was a locker- red knife. carving into the %&$# popping 3tips at one time, the olfa in my hand slung back and stabbed my left wrist3/4" deep missing artery by a 1/2' bleeding all over the customers floor. thank GOD for quick tight cement. took 20 min's to stop bleeding holding my hand over my head. stopped bleeding and glued it up. my partner thaught that he was taking me to the hospital, customer was thinking the same thing. back to work in a hour
Funny this thread came up again today, as i started it originally, and ive got myself injured again this weekend! Had a jap import people carrier to tint, when the customer turned up it already had tint, but it was faded to clear! he had no idea that it had tint on the windows. So now the price is to include a full strip and re tint. As work is quiet at the moment i gave him a good price for the strip of the old tint, just to make sure that i still got the job. Well into stripping the first window went to change the blade on my triumph scraper, but found it a bit stuck, so there i was hitting the side of it when i thought "this could be nasty if i was to slip" you guessed it slipped and put about a 3 inch slash in the fleshy part below your thumb! (opp way to the other scar from the first injury in this thread!). No time for a trip to hospital this time so out came the super glue quick squeeze, bit of electrical tape over the wound, back on with the job! Still hurts now typing this, and a better scar than last time!
Dont know if i ever posted this before but anyway,I was installing a hitch on the boss's car and couldnt get the bolts started do to small plastic tab in the bummber cover. So i grap a long two fisted razor knife(utillaty blade) ,it does'nt cut ! So i change blade and and grab tourch, lay back down, heat blade red hot, and pulled it through the tab and stuck it in my forehead....Stood up with nearly a 2lb. knife still stuck in my head ! Pull it out ,grab some paper towel and head to the bathroom.Upon looking at the towel I'm thinking this might not be so bad there was only a sliver of blood ,so i look in the mirror...3" long and 2" wide laying completly open the skull,no blood ,I caterized it with the red hot blade... At about that time the guy i was working with came in seeing what was going on and almost puked .I stayed at the shop for almost 3hrs. waiting for the boss to get back from lunch and calling to find what hospital had a plastic surgen available with nothing more than a elec. tape butterfly.Ended up with 23 tiny stiches and tiny scare that only i can notice...
