Push like hell when you squeegee and when you think you are done, do it again.
And don't forget to bring band-aids
Cut a little slice in the center of the corner before you try to push the film down for side cuts. Just about where you would have the corner be on the glass be. Use a heavy duty knife.
what specific problems are you having? lots of little timesavers and techniques with s&s.
If you hire a sub to install it, make sure you do a thorough background check on them...
CE, you are sooo funny!!!!(and true!!!) Also, buy a film handler if you do enough secuity film. You can cut pretty much to exact size, this will help reduce deforming the film if you push into the corner incorrectly.
if you are working by your self, pre cut all the big peices. roll them up like your going to snap roll them. reverse roll it down the window. make sure you use a little xtra solution and push like hell with a 5" blue. and yes to the 45 degree cut in the corner. also use lots of solution on the outside for the squeege. were rooting for you.
use a film-handler to cut your film.
leave about an 1/8" of daylight on your width if it is getting a silicone attachment. scrape your window. wipe down your frames. clean squeegee the window. roll the film liner side in so that you can easily grasp the roll and have control. dont over tighten the roll, this causes tunneling. wet the liner and peel it back onto the roll and back roll the film onto the glass. trick is to not let the liner touch the wet glass...big no no. Now all you have to do is cut cut bottom. -if the windows are really un-square line up your top and a side on your over cut piece of film.- start at the top side with a fresh blade and make your cut about halfway down the window. now make a 45 in the bottom corner where the film overhangs the side and bottom. start your 45 where you think the bottom corner of the film should lie on the glass then pull the olfa down following the 45 on the frame. don't ride the frame just mimic the 45 that's already there under the film. push the film into the glass. its not hard to get the hang of making the 45 but this is KEY. now that the film is against the glass continue your cut along the side and immediately pull back that side slightly and re wet the back of the film it should have pulled away since you only cut it halfway down. now that your top and two sides are good cut that bottom, don't ride your knuckle along that piece popping up when you cut hold it down with your free hand. this also helps stop the cut off from sliding under the bottom of the film and bringing any debris with it. take your cleaning squeegee to the film and get about 90% of that water out this helps with hazing and dry spots. also if you have a chunk of dirt or any other debris in there you spot it before you smash the hell out of it. lightly mist the window again and pull a pass down the window in the center. now that you've split the window in half start at the top right or left side with your side to side passes. if you're using a 6" blue max start your next pass on the last 2" of the previous pass. this overlapping effect works like pushing out the window twice as long as you hit your tops twice with good hard passes. if you're using a residential squeegee.....good luck. run a hard card that's wrapped in a paper towel around the edges. take that paper towel and dry the sill. move on to the next after a spot check/wipe down. better late then never??,
im not going to get into specific brands and who i get my film from its a matter of security.
if you know its going to tunnel don't roll your pre-cut pieces too tight. if you do have a problem with tunneling use xtra water
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
