Interior Designer I've done work with recently merged/joined/bought out with another company... They have an outstanding invoice with me from May. They do net 30... which would put it at early June.
I've called and spoken with their accounting dept. and he told me it would be taken care of, but I still haven't gotten the check and now when I call I just get voicemail.
I never had any written agreement with the designer, so I don't think I could do anything as far as late fees... but I would like to get paid for the work that was completed.
Any ideas how I should proceed??

The next time I'll be in their area would be in two weeks... which I guess if I don't have a check by then I could stop in.

Have a person from a different phone # call them and ask them about coming out to give an estimate. WHen they show up, you can ask at that time about the $$ they owe you.

I'd like to do that, but I really don't have the time, plus they aren't local so I doubt they would do it. :( My day tomorrow is packed... but I think I'm going to go down on Monday or Tuesday and stop in if I can't get anyone tomorrow. GET YOUR MONEY. I was actually about to drive down there today..... by the time I get there they will be gone... so it will have to wait until tomorrow. This is a joke. I have no doubt they got paid from the client already, let alone more then what I billed them. So tomorrow is it. I have to watch my nieces in the morning... so I'll be on the phone first thing, but once I'm done I'll take a little road trip to their store. I might stop by the police station on my way... see if I can get a nice officer to come along with me.

When I go out on a commercial job & terms have not been agreed upon its payment upon completion, Residential is always pymt. upon completion. If when I'm finished & hand them a bill & ask how will you be paying & they say well.. can we mail you a check I always say yes thats fine but when should I expect it? Alot of times there like well you should have it within 2 weeks or so, yeah right ! Plan on 30 days, I recently did a couple small commercial jobs 1 350 sq.ft & 1 like 150 sq.ft. its been 3 weeks now & still no pymt. I just called both companies & asked about pymt I told them the warranty needs to be turned into the manu. within 30 days or its a possibility they would void the warranty & we will not file any warranties until dues are paid. You better believe they called me right back like ok I got it approved checks in the mail today & the other ok your invoice is sitting right here on my desk that was on my agenda for today . So I should be paid on both by the end of this week. . Try it out

if it's fg, can't you put a lien on the building for unpaid services & material? And just b/c they merged with someone doesn't mean the debts from the previous owner is automatically dismissed. I know this is frustrating, but I'm sure you have options if they just blow you off. Good luck.

Jul 16 2008, 08:24 PM
Yeah I think I can put a lean on them.... I'm just not sure how to do it.
They actually called me back this morning... and promise me they would look into the matter and get back to me tomorrow. We'll see. I told them if I did not get a call back tomorrow I would proceed with further actions to ensure payment.

You can probably find out online, or if you have any friends that are contractors they usually know especially ones that specialize in remodeling. Call your county recorder and ask how you put a lien on property for unpaid services and materials? I'm sure this is going to work out and they will pay you....just keep the lien idea in your back pocket if they decide to flake out on you.

I hate that. People taking advantage of others. Im doing PPF installs and new to the business. Im 6'5" and 275lbs they will pay..or they wont get there car back in one piece!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im worried about dealerships. Dont know if they can cut checks on the spot or I have a 30 day waiting period? Things to ask before I sign up with them.
Ill take checks from friends or people I know, but no on else...sad it has to be that way though. Id never think of bouncing a check, but some people dont give a s**t.

Find out your lean laws in your state and have a lawyer write up a lean contract. I have one and require a siganture on it at the end of every job if they do not pay that day. It works. even if you are subcontracted you can do this. The end user will likely call the designer and be like what the heck is going on here, and then you wil get a call and get paid. Just make sure that the new charge includes all court costs and lein fees too. It works!

Since this wasn't the customer paying me, rather the decorator, I didn't really have the option of taking the film off the windows. I thought about it... I was going to leave them the glue as a freebie. Talk with an attorney, and he advised me not to attempt to do that. But all is good... it's done and over with. -R

maybe a drive by rocking of the window??? at night. then you get to go out and redo it for an extra charge??? to help with the late fees
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
