Full Version: Dodge Avenger/ Dodge side seals
Hey guys I just tinted a Dodge avenger today the back window was a very easy one peice installation no problems there but the sides are a nightmare. Between Avengers and its bigger brother the Charger I hate these cars side windows. I wasted a few pieces of film before i figured out how to pull the bottom scraper sheild. Come to find the bottom scraper film was not the problem its the side felt strips. I noticed on this car as well as other dodges/jeep products, they make it nearly impossible to tuck film behind it without creasing it!! any tips or tricks on these cars? I thought about pulling the whole seal but they are such a pain to fish back in there and get back on that it was almost not worth it to me. I finally got the car looking good but MAN it took me 4 hours for a car that SHOULD take an hour and 1/2. One thing I did try that didnt help to much, was I lay the film on the outside, do my left side cuts, and my right side cuts then squeegee and heat shrink the fingers at the bottom. roll down the window and cut my factory edge. I then transfer my rough template to the glass on the wall for clean up cuts, but i even tried cutting off 1/4 inch off each side thinking it could tuck back there easier and i could blackout tape the rest which is what i did. But to me that is not a good clean job HELP! ;) And be nice to me, you always have to rip on me on my posts =(
once youve pulled the bottom seals go in with the whole peice and slide it behind there. tape those seals
Not gonna rip on ya...yet......throw away the blackout tape....there's no need for it.Take pride bro!
the caliber is the one that i hate

Just did one last night. I pulled the bottom seals out and taped the felt. The trick to not getting those kinks on the side is how you manuver the film in. Fold the film tword the window on the side instead of away and you wont get any kinks.
My example makes sense to me but must sound totally retarded to anyone reading this.
i usually don't even tape or take out the bottoms and these cars always go pretty smoothly for me. the most difficult part for me is not stealing the brand new srts that come in!
Without tapeing the seals how do you keep from getting contamination in there?
i suppose its because i generally only get chargers and avengers straight off the truck from the dealer. with hardly any miles on them, i make a quick pass with my heat gun to lay down any strays and they come out perfect every time. other than ford pickups, i really dont have to tape very often.
Sweet!! New cars are the best. What state are you in?
good ol kansas. pretty miserable weather here lately, but that makes for pretty good business. can't win for losin!
I pull up the strips.....once the tint is installed i slide them back in !!!!
pull the rubber strips out and slide film in.......easy install
ya, those side strips are a nightmare!...They are tight as tight can be, and if you pull them they DO NOT go back in without pulling the door panel off to fishem back in there.....Terrible design!
I cant see how u pros tape the side felts either, way too tight for that IMO, the film is hard enouph to get in there, never mind throwing tape into the equasion. One car I'd love to master, but hope I never get again....Dodge needs to get away from this design... my two cents
you don't tape the sides when the glass is UP.....
And I have not had any issues getting the seals back in with out taking the door panel off.... And I have not had any issues getting the seals back in with out taking the door panel off.... Hmm, question, why would you need to tape them when the window is down then? And regarding the seals, the canadian version must be different because the 08 avenger I had absolutely will not go back in there with the door panel on. Which sucked
roll window down, tape felts, roll window back up, clean window, position film, cut film, squeegee clean window again, install film, remove tape, final clean window, re-install sweep if removed......
no need to tuck tape with window up.... Ah yes, that way does make sense, taping the felt when the window is down then rolling it up......But Im saying that the 08 Avenger I did the other day, it was tight as hell without the felts taped, I cant imagine the film sliding in there with tape on the felts...Then again, maybe ur using a thin tape...I use green painters tape, which is quite thick....
Thank god for TintDude. Just did a new Avenger....butter tint job with the seals out.
