as a matter of budget, i plan to modify an existing sign on my building. its a lighted lexan facing. i have in mind to use part of it and cover the rest by bonding a 3' x 8' piece of treated, painted, and sealed wood over the part i wish to cover. some questions i have are what types of paint, sealant and bonding to use. what type of wood is best to hold up to weather and get a smooth painted finish. after this is complete i plan to install vinyl lettering or logo with my phone number (which i need a price on from someone here to ship to me.) i know nothing about signs so any help appreciated. in fact, i may be going about this all wrong so open to ideas. thank you in advance.

here it is. i wanted to save the sign itself as it was about $10,000 according to the company that installed it. they want around $3000 to replace that lexan facing. i've only been in this location for about 3 months and want to see how things go before i sink that kind of dough into the sign. but, i want something more professional that this as this side of the building is facing about 22,000 cars per day. i wanted to replace the facing with a white plexiglass and do vinyl lettering as it would light up but can't find plexiglass anywhere around here and it costs more to ship it than the product itself. any ideas would be great. thank you.

you need to contact Fellers or Grimco for some acryllic board. We use it all the time to replace the signs like that around here, I think the last one we did was only about $950 installed with design and everything. You can get your logo and such printed on a film that allows light through, or you can use some avery translucent film also. What size is that sign anyway? if it is larger than a 4ft x 8ft, just use two arcyllic boards. Looks great, a lot cheaper!

6'x8'... what thickness should i look for? i haven't pulled that facing out but i'm thinking 1/4" or 3/16" or something. will that work to replace it?

I would order a custom banner same size as the sign there, and put some vinyl lettering, or have a sign shop or anyone in here who does digital and make a digital banner and hang it like u have the suntek one there, but to custom size (same) as the sign you have there. twocents.gif

This is a good idea. Somebody at the sign shop is not telling you the truth. That complete sign brand new does not cost 3000.00 dollars installed in our area.
You can also pull that sign out and measure it and probably have someone make you a custom one a whole lot cheaper and put it in yourself

Any decent glass shop should have the plexi glass but I think Tint has the best and most cost efficient idea.

someone PM me cost of a 6'x8' banner with my logo, Professional Window Tinting under that and my phone at the bottom. If i can budget that more than the plexi i'll buy it. thank you.

no glass shops in my area have plexi-glass. amazing huh? i'm being told around $500.00 bucks shipped. gotta be cheaper plexi than that around. although shipping is over half that price.
