Full Version: What would you do ?

Here's a senerio. Guy drops off his 04 Saturn Ion , I say it might need felt (here in Canada anyways..some had felt..some didn't ) I charge $20 per door for felt

Guy shows up at 9am and I inspect the rear passenger door rubrail ..woo hoo , it's factory felted. I ask him for a contact number in case I have to get a hold of him for any reason ( I always do that) , get the cell number and he's on his way.

15 minutes into the job, I discover that Saturn decided to give him 1 door with felt when making the car (the door I checked) and the other 3 were plastic..NO felt tantrum.gif

I phone him to say there will be an additional charge ( $20 x 3 doors) , but he doesn't return my phonecall after calling 3 times..I had the car for the day..what would you do ?

I would tint it. Not felt it, then when he comes to pick it up give him the option. Explain they may (probably) will scratch but you are leaving it up to him.

That wasn't an option as I had to leave right after he came to pick it up at 5pm...I should have mentioned that in the opening post Flaugh.gif

Felt the other 3...Tell him what happend. If he dont pay ..no big deal, lesson learned. Check every roll up next time.

Pretty much how I looked at it ..although the "lessened learned " not really..it was just a freak thing..what's the odds of getting another car where the factory did 1 seal ..but not all of them Flaugh.gif

How I handled it was this , I tinted the car, took the time to do the felt and told him it was a judgement call I had to make in his absence of him not calling me back when I left a message.

I told him he can pay the original amount that he expected to pay ,Ill let him off the labour of felting but NO WARRANTY if the felt was to ever let go and gum up his tint or scratch it (I don't see why I should have the possibility of that happening and I have to fix something that I wasn't paid for in the first place to fix. OR he can pay my felt fee per door and I'll gladly warranty it as I normally do (only fair since I was now paid to do the job)

When wording it like that, he was cool and paid the full amount and appreciated the fact that I was willing to let it go for free yet understanding why I wouldn't warranty something I wasn't being paid for. Was happy thay either way, I did the right thing and felted it . I was happy that he paid for the extra work thumb.gif

frickin saturns......... rollin.gif

I gave up trying to sell skins. It's not worth the extra 10 minutes of sales time. If the custy is spending good $$$ on the POS car I just throw it in no charge. I will not warranty scratching with or without skins on any roll up and make it clear up front. Upselling on Saturns is a waste of breath. trust.gif

that was my thought...he can always bring it back if need be.

Honestly, you guys are right..I took a chance ..was feeling lucky , however I had the advantage over you 2..I was able to meet the customer prior to the senerio and had a "gut feeling" he wouldn't screw me on the felting. Many customers I'm sure would have..

the one door that was felted already was probably a replacement from a wreck repair......

I have never done any felting of doors and have never had anyone come back with one that had scratched. I am pretty well the only tinter in my areas and so I think I would know if I had a problem....but maybe not...

You did the right thing. Do it properly the first time and he will respect your honesty and come back again and again, and tell his friends. thumb.gif

I thought so as well, bu he's original oner and asked him if it was a replacement door..definatly from factory that way.

If you've never had issues with scratching tint you either havn't done many of the "problem cars" or the customer hasn't come back to you because they havn't figured out why its scratching or they havn't paid attention to the scratches. twocents.gif
