I think that's easy - but WHY?
(LEO'n'DARTZ @ Aug 29 2008, 11:58 AM) [*]638728[/*] I think that's easy - but WHY? i dont like using the film itself to make a template as i sometimes put even a tiny crease at edge or wherever. i just mean can you buy like a clear liner to make templates
use news paper
Plastic drop cloth will probably work
Not sure what type stores you have across the pond but like here at lowes or home depot (home improvement stores)you can buy plastic sheeting that goes under a house that i would image would work good for what you want
cheers for the suggestions guys will have look about see what i can find.
on roll downs dont cut right to the top or bottom if thats where its creasing
have it looking like a bit fat 'I' and trim the rest on your board you shouldnt need to template those, even if saving it for future jobs as its just as quick to do it on the car in my experience thats the thing with the tintin lark, always throwing up challenges (walestint @ Aug 29 2008, 05:32 PM) [*]638784[/*] on roll downs dont cut right to the top or bottom if thats where its creasing have it looking like a bit fat 'I' and trim the rest on your board you shouldnt need to template those, even if saving it for future jobs as its just as quick to do it on the car in my experience thats the thing with the tintin lark, always throwing up challenges Hey man long time no see. just dont like using the film on car to make template. like to be able lift it ,move it, slide it about without worrying about creases. you doing well, hows things going for ya (1PEECBARETTA @ Aug 29 2008, 02:36 PM) [*]638739[/*] use news paper would it not go all sogy and rip??

unsure of the purpose of this liner business any heads up on its worth? respect (walestint @ Sep 4 2008, 06:43 PM) [*]639795[/*] yo yo yo unsure of the purpose of this liner business any heads up on its worth? respect i use the scrap liner to make a reuseable templates but some windows are to big to use my scrap so a roll will help out big time. i was taught this by a brilliant tinter from east lothian tints. means you never damage film making a template and you can have them cut before a customer arrives if you have done that type of car before. in other words saves you time in long run and you wont damage any film trying to cut it to size on the car (coolrides @ Sep 4 2008, 07:00 PM) [*]639821[/*] (walestint @ Sep 4 2008, 06:43 PM) [*]639795[/*] yo yo yo unsure of the purpose of this liner business any heads up on its worth? respect i use the scrap liner to make a reuseable templates but some windows are to big to use my scrap so a roll will help out big time. i was taught this by a brilliant tinter from east lothian tints. means you never damage film making a template and you can have them cut before a customer arrives if you have done that type of car before. in other words saves you time in long run and you wont damage any film trying to cut it to size on the car Its a verrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy old technique on tinting whereas now you would take film out box trim to size template use the old liner from the tint you just used, job done
i just cut 1 whole side on the car and then cut the whole other side off the scrap liners from the first side on my peel board, speeds the process up and reduces cutting on the car and risk of damage also ive never creased a pattern cutting it on car use more slip maybe or sharper knife
i guess everyone has a technic that suits them best, its the way i was taught and its the way i prefer to do it, especially with darker film as it easy to accidently cut the cars rubber gaskets ect. just suits me. all i was looking is somet that is like film liner and diamond tints nailed it
cheers
Double cut them - save time.
I suppose it depends on your skill level and schedule how things are done. As long as the finished job is good anything goes.
These guys, Solar Graphics sell it in the states, so could probably ship it. Haven't seen it available over here though yet.

I suppose it depends on your skill level and schedule how things are done. As long as the finished job is good anything goes. yea i not in any big hurry i may take 2-4 hours to do a car but i wont let it go if it not to my satisfaction. if i cant do a car with no light gaps window fully up or down i will take it back off and tell the customer i cant do it. only done that once tho and told them to bring it back another day and i got it sorted. would rather give the customer no tint than a poor tint job. i take time and pride in my work. have seen some jobs i would be ashamed to put on the road. lol
takes a bit of organisation, careful not to keep trimming template I suppose
i cut on the window im tinting as it only takes a few seconds really, bish bash bosh etc final trim on board after el shrinkio, sneeze over window and apply with pastie ridden hands, job done
