Industry Revenues

Hey Everyone,
I've been reading the forums for a few days now and was hoping I could get some information.
I'm looking to get some national statistics on total revenues for the flat glass film industry. I'm also looking at getting some information on market segmentation as it relates to flat glass as well. In other words, who seems to make up the largest share of the market? Large Businesses, small businesses, residential customers, etc?
I tried calling the IWFA and they were extremely short, rude, and unhelpful. Guess they don't care about helping the little people.
Any insight you guys can provide is greatly appreciated!

Whats that got to do with anything? You'd think that people that work in a service business would realize that it might benefit them when they are helpful to someone else. Oh wait, I get it now. Since I'm new to these forums, that doesn't entitle anyone to be helpful towards me. Same typical attitude in most forums. I love your customer service skills. He's got a pretty good point there, Adamster. I've been in this industry since '85 and really couldn't guess those figures. Some guys may wonder your intentions for that request. Most members here check in every day or two so responses are a little slow. Welcome to the board, and stick around, you will find some real characters around here!

Kats, Thanks for the welcome.
I'll admit, I was sarcastic. But I would have thought that after 30+views, someone would have been able to add some contribution. My intentions shouldn't really matter to anyone but me as it is my business, but understanding human nature, I see your point. But in case you or anyone want to know, I was asking because I'm doing a research paper for a graduate class on energy conservation, businesses and industries that impact energy conservation, and costs (profits and losses) associated with the "green" movement.
Thanks again for the welcome and attempting to help.

Thanks again for the welcome and attempting to help. There are only a handful of people in this industry that know those answers and most of them do not post here. If you tried the IWFA and got shut down, you may be able to contact someone over at Window Film Magazine and they might have some statistics to share with you. I just can't guarantee how accurate they'd be...

You join, place a post and then respond with a sarcastic remark when not answered immediately...........hmmm, try that in the real world and watch how quickly you are looking for another job. Now, the sarcastic respose ends. Your question was answered, and I feel for you when it comes to the IWFA. Actually no, I don't want you to do my homework. Given your comment, I wouldn't trust you with that since you probably never have done a research paper before. I was looking for information....thats called researching something. I admitted I was a jackass, and I shouldnt have been. My time constraints have nothing to do with everyone else's busy lives. I did figure that since 30 professional people had viewed my post that at least 1 or 2 of them would have had something to contribute. If you have worked in the industry, then it stands to reason that you would have some knowledge about that. I worked in law enforcment for 10 years.....I can speak intelligently on statistics regarding such if someone asks me a question. Thats called being educated and knowledgable about what I did for a living. I FAILED to realize that I'm a new poster, and with most forums, there are few people who ever want to help or answer questions to the new poster. It happens all the time. As you can see, if you read all the posts, there were several people who posted smartass answers back to me, rightfully so, and then offered something. I can accept that. And they will be the ones who are more successful in their businesses and lives because they actually take a second to offer something of value. You on the other hand obviously think you are the forum jackass and post just be a jackass. Thats fine too. It will come back to you in spades I'm sure. To those that found offense to my sarcasm, I apologize and was wrong. Funny though how that got responses though when a general request for information did not. Thanks again to those that helped. OK...im done giving my ..and now that we know that you are doing research on the industry..some are willing to give out info that will help you...and some still wont...and some just dont know the info you are looking for...thats just the way it is sometimes. BUT..i hope you find what you are looking for. GOOD LUCK

Thanks fellas.....with all the jackassing aside, I understand and see your points. Tintgod, actually, I have been asked that particular questions, yes I was a street cop, and I have given that answer. Its kinda like when someone stops in the middle of traffic to ask directions and you tell them to take their next 4 lefts and they go "ok, thanks officer". Regardless, I see your point, but also realize that sometimes extending a hand to someone else when they need help may benefit you in the future. The power of networking. I did however receive a phone call back from IWFA's Executive Director and he shared with me what he knew. It was a pretty interesting conversation and I got the info that I needed. In respect to you guy's industry, I won't post the information, but you can feel free to email me and I'd be happy to get it to you. What do I get out of that by doing that for some of you? Not a darn thing right now, but maybe down the road it might. An interesting tidbit thought, is that most of this information, at least in hard numbers, isn't readily available.......and to be honest, I've been researching this for quite a while with a lot of dead ends. I decided to post on your forums as a last ditch effort. Luckily, IWFA finally called. Again, sorry about coming across as a jackass, that was my sole intent. Thanks again to those that could help. And tintzeus, 10-30 Billion isn't even close But you are right on large businesses making up a significant portion of nothing more than from the increased s/f that would be installed. I can be emailed at intsystems@comcast.net Thanks again. I'll try not to let my sarcastic nature come out the next time! Blame it on many years of stupid questions from people asking me how to get out of ticket!!!!

It's my turn, "listen here booyyy" (4adam13), always wanted to say that to a cop. You just rubbed everyone the wrong way to begin with. Like most professions, most take a lot of pride in their work and have even more pride in themselves. When you insult anyone in anything they do, of course your going to get responses, it's human nature. Look at those with 1000 plus posts and yet you couldn't wait but a day or two. Just like how a cop would react and respond... Hope you don't take insult to anything I had just mentioned, simply applying my freedom to speak with permission granted by tintdude. We as tinters believe what we do is an art, and if you don't understand that, it's ok. Please just respect the art. If I can speak for most tinters, we really don't care how large or how much the industry is worth, just that you drive away a happy customer knowing we gave it our all to please you as our pride is on every pane of glass you own. As mentioned on an earlier post, the only people truly concerned about any research in this industry are the people that make the stuff. Allow me to give you a tip, call every manufacturer listed in Window Film Magazine and ask them; How much do you guys sell? You think waiting a day or two is bad. Here's some suggestions; and you thought we wouldn't help, another thought only a cop would think...ooohh how do you feel now boooyyyy Automotive films -$$$ what % Residential / Commercial films - $$$ what % Safety & Security films - $$$ What % Decorative films - $$$ What % How many laminators and coaters? How many manufacturers? How many distributors? How many dealers? How many consumers? Which part of the world uses the most film? Which part of the world uses the least film? What size? What thickness? What climate moves the most? What climate moves the least? What is average? What shade is most popular? What shade is least popular? on and on and on... Have fun with your research.

Ahhhh Da Beach......now you really look like a jackass, because this was all ironed out a week ago and I've had some really good conversations with your colleagues via email. In fact, I provided them some information that they may be able to use.
Would you like me to send it to you? Good, cause I wasn't going to anyways. Because if you actually took 5 mins to read the entire thread, you'd have seen everything was ironed out. At least there are a number of your colleagues on here that can recognize a mistake, give a good ribbing or two and then move on. Those are the people I will gladly share my research with. But on the other hand, you stated that the only people interested in marketing numbers of film products are the manufacturers......guess you never showed up for your economics and marketing classes.
But you decided instead to read the initial post, feel that the other posts were unimportant, and then play forum tough guy. After I started being the jackass, you officially ended as THE JACKASS. Congratulations.....kinda funny since it is your own community.
And by the way, I may have been an impatient jackass, but NEVER once did I disrepect the "art" of tinting or the industry....I don't appreciate you alluding to the fact that I did. Now, I may not give a rats ass about you, but the rest of your colleagues have my respect for the careers they do and the businesses they have built. Its small businesses like theirs that make the world go round. But, thats another economics lesson, and you were absent that day.

Gosh...4adam13...you figured me out. so sorry...just wanted to have some fun too, it's no fair the others got to rag on you first, couldn't resist the ingnorance of some people, I am such a jack...hehe. Even if it were a year ago, I would've done the same thing. As for the economic and marketing classes, boohoo, my family simply isn't as fortunate as yours, some of us have to work for a living and learn along the way, and again I apologize as I am still learning. Gosh...I am still such a jack... c'mon on now...share with the rest of the world what you know...wait a minute...this is your and yours alone, sorry. BTW, the "art" of tinting is within and with so much pride. And YES you did insult everyone on the forum who considers themselves. It's ok for not understanding as you have not even begun to scratch the surface of what a tinter goes through day in and day out. And I am sorry for hurting your feelings, just wanted you taste some your own medicine. It didn't feel good, huh. I will end this by saying, "yes you are right, I am wrong, you are perfect, I am not, you are educated, I am ignorant, you are wise, I am foolish, you are good, I am bad. DONE!
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
