Full Version: Never do something for free
About a month ago I had a customer com e in to my shop and request that his tint be measured(VLT).Being one of the only shops that has a VLT meter in my area I was offering this as a free service.I spent about 40 minutes with this customer measuring the film he had installed elsewhere and confirmed that it was not the right darkness(he wanted 35% and the other shop installed 50%).He later went to another shop and had his tint removed and re-installed at a lower price. On yellowpages.com this person posted a review of his new tint job claiming he received excellent service from them but also posted under their review that my shop was "overpriced".So I have now decided to charge for measuring VLT of film.Any suggestions on how much to charge?
wow
That totally blows Maddtinter .. Charge $20 ,but it's free if they want a re tint on the spot..if they have to think about it, give them a signed business card for re embursment for the $20 if they decide to come back to you for a redo.

Your response is what I was thinking about doing.Maybe I will charge A liitle more....$35.Thanks!
charge whatever you have for a minimum hourly rate. What could you be making instead of being bothered to measure the windows?
Agreed with lildetails charge them by what you make an hour and than reimburse them if they choose to do the TINT with you.
what a D-BAG customer....remember karma...it will get him....
I agree with tintman PA, some customers think they are the sh*&. I had a guy claiming to be able to hook me up with a ton of jobs in my area, after hooking his car up, I have only received one car and not even for the price I told him.
No good dead goes unpunished....

I can beat that!!!!!!.
I had a call for tinting a car and she booked an appointment saying that they also needed a vinyl sign cut for their business and installed on the back glass. I gave a very good price to do both (This sign was more like a book than an advert) and she agreed to the work as long as they could be done the next day. So I cut the sign that night ready for the morning. When she comes in she says she is having the tint done with somone else as they are $20 cheaper. WTF!!!!!!!!. I'm not lovin it.
Last time I did something free was for a close friend who wanted to know if the film on his new truck was legal, the dealer had it added as soon as it hit the lot, so I slapped the meer on it, and at the sale time found scratches in the film.
He is getting it back to the Dealer ASAP so they can have it redone.
what an azzz customers like that make me sick
