evileye.gif Very interesting list, really it is.....
I am betting Bekeart will be next on the list

NFRC - National Fenstration Ratings Council

It my opinion, from talking with glass people (so do not yell at me) this group was a self made group of board members looking to give there glass products credentials others could not meet. The IGA and GANA both do not support the NFRC because of business relations of certain board members to glass companies (unless things have changed in the past few months) that would like to corner certain markets. Most of the standards are already out there with different organizations, I am not surpised that they have window film Items listed already, all you have to do is pay for the tests. This is not as easy for all the different glass fabrication shops out their that do not have deep pockets to certify every type of product they have.

If anything it at least gives film a little bit more credibility and supports some of the manufacturers that support the IWFA.

My money is on BSF being next as well...

The NFRC was a result of all of the false energy claims in the early 80's... they needed a 3rd party verification so that consumers would not be getting mislead. The DOE recognizes NFRC testing procedures which kind of trumps IGA and GANA because the DOE operates the most recognizable energy savings program called Energy Star. NFRC Cert is more of a formality and expense rather than a new way of doing things but that is the price you have to pay to keep companies from making false claims. twocents.gif

Every glass guy that knows about NFRC.....well hates it. I don't think I have the glass mag's anymore but there was a really good article on it. They tried to get differing points on veiw (From glass fabricators) and were not able to find anyone. Window Co' (like AW, Marvin ect) didn't mind the ratings because it makes there windows sound better. But I think its the bigger guys pushing this (like oldcastle and ppg) and I belive that there are 2 employees, one from old castle and one from cardinal that are or were on the NFRC board. If I find the aricle I post a link to it. With the whole LEED/green buildings movement you may be able to see how this NFRC can hurt an individual tint shop giving an advantage to the Specific Product that one may not be able to get. Time will tell

The various NFRC peer groups are made up of members from the various MFG's. Just about everyone has someone from their company in a peer group to act as a check and balance. That is one of the reason some ppl have issues. The way that the NFRC can hurt a tint shop is if window film goes the route of windows where the labels are defacto. Film companies that are not certified nor use NFRC testing standards will suffer in the US market. twocents.gif

Here is a list of the board of directors.....You can see how even small window manufactures can be hurt. You may also find it interesting that al the window companies here have a clause in there warranty regarding glass tinting in one way or another. Are they really our friends here? TIME WILL TELL
