Any advice on where I could learn flat glass? I have been doing autos for along time....just researching on flat glass...sounds as if alot of time learning types of glass and seals, heat etc. What is the main difference from say suntek carbon and suntek res and comm films? I have been reading alot on the subject....it appears if you don't use the right film on the right type of glass it could break. It also seems that if you gut the wrong kind of seals you could be in some serious sh**! Fire away!!
Where are you located?
Best thing to do would be to contact your film rep and see if they offer any training or training materials. Aside from that.. start tinting the windows in your home. That will at least give you an idea how to do it. -R (Roach @ Oct 18 2008, 02:48 PM) [*]648704[/*] Where are you located? I'd definitely check with SunTek before tinting your windows, so you won't have to replace your windows.
This isnt the best time to start a FG business with the economy and the fact that this is the down season.
one big difference is the adhesive , res and comercial film is not pressure sensitive , contact your film supplier they should have info about different glass types and give you some information in general and you can get the tools from them , not that you need many more tools mainly just a 12inch squeegee , a 5 way tool and a 6 inch scraper, i have only done training with flat glass haven't done any customers yet but compared to auto its easier except some situations might be harder like colonial windows and stripping old tint on old buildings that would suck.
if your film supplier is helpful theyl tell you all you need to know and measure up your own home and order some and give it a go after you learn what glass and what direction it faces to avoid thermal stress. heard some horror stories of dark film on lam thats east facing and all windows have cracked, very expensive exercise there. Long as your not real bad with heights. Flat glass is where the money is, lots of more square footage. Easy money, only hard part is paying out the @ss to become a dealer so you can purchase the film. Good luck to you ! -SF (Steelfly @ Oct 21 2008, 04:40 PM) [*]649194[/*] (hardcardretard @ Oct 18 2008, 04:18 PM) [*]648701[/*] Any advice on where I could learn flat glass? And it's very dangerous, better have plenty of insurance. And it's very dangerous, better have plenty of insurance. I agree with the last part for sure... And people think its lots of money, BUT>>>> when you are running a corporation with sales staff, installers, stocking film, overhead of a storefront, vans, insurance its like a regular well paying job that you are in control of. If you plan on making this a career, then these expenses are important. If you want it as a side job, more money to be made PER JOB, but the options of supplying the higher end films are not very likely and your opportunities of jobs are less then 25%. This is in my opinion. Because there is a lot of competition but those who don't plan ahead, plan to fail. Learning FG is easy, for the most part, but its a much different world then the AUTO WORLD. You need to separate the two to be successful. (bLkSuN @ Oct 22 2008, 09:41 PM) [*]649423[/*] SSShhhh... there's no money in flat glass and it's too hard.
