How do you guys heat form the VW bug rear window? I’m doing a demo with one next week at SEMA and the guy that has been doing it does it in 3 minutes. I have got it down but it takes me like 20 minutes. I even recorded the video on You Tube of him doing it. I think he told me he formed it wet. I’m getting ready to try it wet soooooo ……… film at 11! Thanks, any suggestions will be tried in the name of speed!! Stan

I do the lift and pull method. I have tried it wet and dry. No way in the world can i do one in 3 minutes. It takes me at least 15 minutes to heat form it. I would like to know the trick to doing one in 3 minutes

I just used a heavy MDog soap method and the lift and pull and did it in about 15 min. Here is a clip I made last year with him in the back ground check it out

"JIM" doesnt use anything. he just lays the film on the glass with a horizontal anchor. and also he uses global qdp films which are very fast shrinking films, so if u dont have that, u not getting it in 3 mins. i can do it, i have done it, and i could do it all day. if u look closely, he used more of a "stretching" method than a lift and pull. also he uses a red millwalke heat gun which is the hottest gun i have ever used. keep the gun moving really close to the film, and pull harder.

Try it dry with 2 heatguns break window done into 4 sections, the 2 guns will heat a larger area at a time just keep the guns moving. If done right guarantee you will shrink it in just about the same time.I did one for Performance films a few years ago in Ohio.

WOW That's impressive to do that in 3 minutes! It takes me 10 or 15 minutes and i'm happy with that! Technique is everything and i would love to watch a tinter using Llumar do it that fast ! Seeing someone do it you can check there technique and then compare it with yours!

I’m hoping to have it down like Jim (Atkins) in under 3 minutes when I get home from the show. I think he lives in Vegas and has a business there. Even still installs Global I think. Will find out if this is true tomorrow at the show. When I recorded the video I was running to shoot more that day and should have taken the time to watch him better. I’m about a 15 – 20 minute guy myself so we will see if a old dog can be taught new tricks! Seriously, I have did training seminars for over 1,200 tinters in Europe this summer and at ever seminar I learn something from the ones I’m teaching! When a person thinks they know it all they really don’t know squat! At the show I am going to be doing training on a easier window that more newbie’s can successfully learn to form. Then for all the more experienced tinters I’ve got some tricks and timesavers to share! Come by the booth if you’re going to Vegas and we can make TintDude pictures for photo chopping! I will have plenty of film on hand and a hot heat gun we can mess with the QDP so you can see what it will do. Thanks for the advice guys Stan

Jim came to my shop and demoed his 3 minute shrink-Yes he shrank it in 3-4 minutes-but it wasnt anything that could be installed-at least not to my standards-creases galore. So then i say shrink that Toyata CAMRY sitting in the stall-it took him over 20 minutes and he creased it as well.He blamed it on the heat gun. I wasnt impressed-what good is a 3 minute shrink if you throw it in the trash????

I use to double shrink Bug backglasses 10 years ago. Wet. And it took 10-15 minutes. What kind of film? I was using Madico and 3M.

I talked Global into a Honda window so the film can actually be installed and show the anti static liner and the super fast QDP adhesive the film is famous for! I’m glad to hear my 15 – 20 minute installable bug is up to par. Off to the hurryport! Stan

Well I’m here to say that today at SEMA I watched as Jim did the bug in about 3 minutes perfectly!!! Really nice guy, I wish we had him on TD. I was really busy working with customers but my wife Alexia took a hot gun and with his supervision did the window in about 6 minutes. Details and video of the whole deal soon!! Hot gun is very important as well as holding the film (not pulling hard) close to the glass while forming. The people from Steinel heat guns brought me a excellent gun to try for them with digital heat control and digital air controls. Wow really nice guns, those guys know how to make them for sure. I set mine on 1150 F and it turned the film into butter to form. I think the guns are kind of pricy; I will have to check um out for Christmas. I swear I am going to answer all my PM’s tonight guys…….. sorry Vegas is calling Stan

Jim appears to be a nice guy and quite skillful. But does "johnny-talks-alot" realize that he is standing Directly In Front of what Jim is doing. Try taking two steps to your left next time buddy. Thanks

Thanks I recorded and edited the vid about Howard's business with Global not how to heat form the window so I guess him standing there is my fault . I did talk to Jim today about making a vid of him to teach those interested in learning but we are both pretty busy. should be able to work on it soon. As of this week he is the distrubitor for Global in Fla!!!!!! Show went great, thanks to all I was able to meet!!! Stan

The three minute shrink was only a marketing sceem invented by global. Thats why it sometimes looks like Shi*. Yes global shrinks fast and it shrinks fastest dry and with alot of heat. Sometimes you can do it in 3 or 5 or 2.5 or 15....Pulling the film also aides in fast forming but the long term results of that are still unknown.
Stan with all due respect how did you get away so long with limited knowledge in the window tinting business and train people to tint? I am not trying to be a smart axx Im an just curious. I have been playing around with the idea since about 1995 and maybe its time I throw my hat into the ring. I have a few ideas that I havent seen tried in the training arena:dunno

I guess I am just lucky or have a better attitude than most or it might be the experance of tinting 10's of thousands of cars or the experance from training thousands of people around the world who become very succesfull in the business. I think that what has brought me along is knowing that I am not a artist I'm just glueing plastic on windows. If I mess up no one dies... I just get another piece of film. You would do real good training with all your knowledge, you should try it. You sound like a person who makes friends easily don't know beans Stan

I've seen Stan in his videos and he deffinitly has the personality to teach! You don't have limited knowledge after 32 years of experience, all the contacts he's made in the industry, sema shows, and passion for window tinting and just get away with it!
