Resurface your hard cards

Full Version: Resurface your hard cards
I use hard cards a lot on automotive. I had the resurface tool, but i didn't like it. This is what i do to smooth out the edges. I use a piece of automotive carpet and rub the the card really fast on the edges of the card on the carpet. What it does is it gets the card hot and basically burns the card to make it smooth again. No more scratching film!!

I just wonder why do you all try reusing a hardcard of USD 1,00 and taking a risk of scratching the film ???????????
You get US --- to install the film on the car ????????????????????????
Why not use a card that has been modified for installing.I can't remember the last time I grabbed a new card that didn't need some sort of tuning.Even if they do cost 1 peso there is still no need to toss 'em(unless they break in half).
I have a 4" Grey Lidco I have been using daily for about 4 years. I tune it with 800 grit sandpaper as needed. I think in a year or so I'll invest in a new one.
A cardboard box for me.
Anyone know how to resurface a yellow squegee?

Well, since the cards often come with rough edges when new, it makes sense to learn to get a smooth edge before using for the first time and after they're old too. Why is the sharpening tool not liked? Does it leave a sharp edge that scratches or what is the main issue with that tool?

yeah I am just curious. I have the tool but have never had any issue with it but maybe someone has(maybe I have just been lucky). Mine was thrown in for free on an order of some tools once otherwise I would not have one either.
When we did auto tinting we used to jack up car and have one guy inside reving the engine and with the wheels spinning you can grind down any card to perfection every time. Go ahead try it its fun!
I use the newspaper!

QUOTE (Pit Stop @ Nov 7 2008, 11:17 AM) [*]651883[/*] I use my jeans This one tip is the single most valuable one I have ever seen. I have gone through soooo many of those little white hard cards over the years. I would use the planer and they would always leave a "squared off" edge that would eventually render the card unusable after a few times - not to mention the card would get smaller and smaller as I used it. I started just running the edge of the card across my jeans to take the fine cuts go away. And VOILA! It works! I have been tinting for 23 years now and if I had only come across this tip earlier I wouldn't have gone through so many cards. I hate ordering just for those stupid little cards! Thanks for the tip!
one spot on my trousers is wrecked from rubbing off hahahahaha
Hope my wife doesnt read this, she think somethin else hahah
400 grit for me.
