Alright I took my 2008 Trailblazer SS with 3000 miles in to get tinted by a pretty reputable tint company. They have tinted my last truck and it was perfect. Well After I drive away I start to notice imperfections ie. scratches on the tint, this is friday late afternoon. It was too late by then to bring it back so I figured I would wait till after the weekend. The weekend comes and I detail the truck like I always do on the weekends and I notice 5 of my actual windows are scratched on the outside from them cutting the tint. The scratches go all the way around the windows. You can feel it with your nail. And can mainly see it in direct sunlight. I talked to another tint place and they said its too scratched to be buffed out and they have to replace my glass. All 5. I then took it to the dealer to get a quote cause this is a brand new truck and still under warranty. They said to be covered under the factory warranty it has to be replaced through them. Today is the 3rd time I went back to the tint place to see what they are going to do and it seems like they are just giving me the run around. Im actually going to talk with the owner of the place on thursday to show him the damage. What should I expect to get from this? What I want is my windows replaced at the dealership which came out to a little over 3000 dollars and my money back for the tint service I payed for so I can go somewhere else. Am I asking for too much?? Thanks for any comments and advise on this issue. Add on: While I was talking to the tint guy he also stated that windows get scratched all the time from them using razorblades. And I was like well this is not a little scratch I have a scratch all the way around 5 of my windows! You can see it glimmer in the sun. Thanks again guys!!

No , Tom you are not asking to much ! I don't know how having a place like SafeLight do it would have any thing to do with your warranty , but know it would be less than the dealer, probably who would be doing it for the dealer ! Talk with the shop owner where this happened ,give him a chance ,If it were this shop,it would be fixed at no exspence to you ...
mates
that is really bad especially if its a reputable shop.

They should be replacing the glass or if it couldbe polished , polishingthe scratches out at their expense!

as far as the dealer being the only one to replace the glass is a bit far off , even fitting aftermarket glass wont affect the vehicle warrenty only the glass itself, i used to be a windscreen fitter we did a lot of dealer work , if it were a new car the dealer would have genuine glass waiting for us and we would just charge them a rate to fit them.

definately go and speak to the owner of the tint shop and im sure they will get this sorted out for you, its expensive for them either way but then again its their fault it happened in the first place dont let them put anything back on you !

good luck !

They should replace your glass then new film.As far as refunding you money I highly doubt it.It is unfortunate that all the glass is damaged. Not all things work out perfectly every time.I am glad that it is not my shop because 3 G's is ALOT.

So no refund??I paid 220 for tinted windows and I came out with scratched tinted windows. There is basically at least 1 good scratch on the tint on the two front windows and then 5 of the back windows are scratched. I mean I really dont mind them doing my tint over but I kind of dont want them to touch my truck anymore. But at the same time I know they will be more carefull while tinting it knowing they just spent all this money for new windows.

you have any pics of the windows...i really dont think anyone can give you any accurate advise without seeing the damage.

Find out what kind of blades they use. I put razor blades on glass all day long and have never had an issue. If the scratch pattern on the cargo area matches the pattern of the film, chances are they used a non stainless steel blade, or a very dull one.

On a side note, one of the guys I used to work for opened a new "red dot" and used the blades that came with it (non-stainless) on a new Kia Rio. They carved a trench all the way around every window he touched. You could have put some dirt in the divot and planted corn!

yep, stainless blades. could have been a mistake by not changing the blade in a new knife. if they dont use stainless blades at all then, its all on them for the damage. its a tough lesson to learn. we had an issue years ago where the installer took a razor to the old ford bronze privacy glass. i bought the custy all new glass and refunded his money. as for the new glass, the dealer will prolly use safelite anyways. so give the tintshop a chance to replace the glass other than the dealer.

Unfortunately for the tint shop you should be able to get your glass replaced anywhere you want. Sucks for them but that's the reason why shops have insurance. We try to keep mistakes to an absolute minimum but sometimes it just happens. As for a refund, I personally do not give refunds. But if someone working at this shop scratched your glass then i would pay for it to be replaced, either out of pocket or insurance claim, and then tint your vehicle myself to make sure it was right.

ahem, seeing how this is an old thread, but ....

the trailblazers have a problem with scratching glass on the outside.
Its not uncommon to see trailblazers with scratches in all the roll down windows, and they all line up parallel to the rear
edge of the window. The gaskets design holds dirt and grit at the bottom.
Have seen it on new trucks with as little as 200 miles.

I wouldnt ask a dr to diagnose a broken bone without an Xray...

SO No professional opinion on the OP's tint job

Since it is a reputable company they should fix it at no charge to you. Since they are giving you the run around i would say just get the money to fix the windows and the money for the tint you paid for.... you are no way in the wrong for asking this from them.....Even worse i cant beleive they let it leave their shop that way. Guarantee you they knew about it when they pulled it out the bay. But they didn't tell you is so wrong.....To bad they did this to you, now their name is going down hill b/c of this. I'm sure you have told your friends and they talk so there goes by mouth communication. Not good when its about problems, their reputation is going down....

I cant beleive the tinter put his name on that vehicle with the issues it now has because of him...thats not cool....

3k to replace 5 windows? grinning_and_saying_no.gif

at least the front roll ups are lami on that car, so thats easily more than a couple hundred a piece. Never tinted the backs, so not sure about those. But if he had 5 windows tinted on a TB, is that 4 doors and a strip? Because adding in a shield for that car could be $1200 or more. For a OEM one from the dealer on my brothers h3 was over $1100

i see this is an old thread and people are still responding...
so
If the installer did deep visible scratchs then all the windows that were scratched should be replaced and a refund given. Hence new windows will be installed and will require new film.

Seeing as this guy didnt ever post any pictures I wonder if he was just one of those overly picky people just wanted something for nothing??? dunno.gif
