Customers,, not understanding why they go across the street to the other shop,, they charge more, have more dust in the tint, and no lifetime warranty.
(solar protect @ Dec 13 2008, 05:35 AM) [*]657135[/*] It's all that combined, along with beeing able to do it in first try and quick enough to be worth it... Just take it to a pro (Mr paladin @ Jun 8 2009, 05:31 PM) [*]693522[/*] Trimming the tint is the easiest, and cleaning and preparing the glass. be prepaired to go though alot of Tint Agreed. For this newb, applying the tint w/ pro-level acceptability. I've been feeling confident from my latest conquests, so I eagerly offered my services to practice on my friend's Odyssey. 1st try - solution tacked up too fast. Adhesive smudges. Shraaaacck!!!! (sound of tint being ripped off window) 2nd try - super small crease in middle of windows Shraaaack!!! (friend thought I was nuts, but I was going for pro-quality) 3rd try - almost perfect, except for that stupid bug near the bottom. Shraaack!!! 4th try - two super small smudges. I decided to leave it and call it a day. Did I mention this was only on one window? I was going to do the fronts on his brand new truck, but after today's beating, I'm telling him to take it to a pro. A confidence-destroying day for someone who thought they were progressing... :(
Don't beat yourself up yet because you got a lot mor shraaaak comin. Takes alot of practice. Regroup, walk away for a few mins. and try again....good luck
When I get flustered a good

Hey TintGod....Can I come swim in your pool with You?
hardest aspect of tinting for me...if i didnt say this before...is dealing with customers. i like tinting, not talking about it all day.
Good question dude... I'd have to agree that dealing with industry as whole form reps to quotes to new products, maintaing high customer satisfaction, staffing, teaching, be open to learn new techniques, dealing with complaints keeping in front of the competion is all challanging.
The hardest part though, is fitting the film and fitting it well, every single time you step up to the wall. After 7 years thats what gets out of bed every day... The 1st few years it was staying in routine undoing the balls ups by noticing what i did to cause them in the 1st place and jst keeping at it till you nail the perfect panel . Then fit 5 more till you nail the next 1 then do it again and again and again, sure enough as soon as you get compalcent or let atention drift 1 hits the floor. Now when we get into the big jobs, whole buildings and serious sq ft, I take a whole day and fit maybe 10 panels and use that to work out where the danger is , how to mitagate it what routine works for that specific install. A week in ya banging out a 1000sq ft and going home at 3... Nah I've got it, the hardest part of this industry is finding an industry thats better ... Picky Customers "cant live wid em and you cant shoot em."
Man you can spend years perfecting your craft. but the customes will always be ..........well you KNOW! (blueyes @ Jul 6 2009, 11:44 PM) [*]700574[/*] Picky Customers "cant live wid em and you cant shoot em." Man you can spend years perfecting your craft. but the customes will always be ..........well you KNOW! just want to one day own a shop and hire someone to deal with the customers and clean windows. life will be good.
aspire to be the very best you can be, dont settle for being a hack and making a quick buck. slow and steady wins the race. do a great job treat your customers well and they will be lining up to do business with you Rember you get what you pay for and you determine what you are worth
1 - learning the first time
2 - customers - ironic likes (e.g. darkest tint w/ best visibility at night... duh! ) - complains on pre-existing scratches - complains on defroster grid getting messed up even if you explain that its an absolute possibility (never had one "yet" though) 3 - cleaning up the mess in my garage 4 - cleaning up customers "really" dirty and nasty windows in addition to the mess you have done (wiping up slip after) 5 - hard headed workers (that's why i prefer working alone)... they usually cause backjobs
Getting up in the morning ?????

Worst thing is cheap customers. They all want a steak for the price of a hot dog.
