Full Version: gov requirement film
I'm bidding on a SS gov job and they want a film described as "606" security film. Anyone know who carries it??
Get a copy of the spec's from the architect as they should be available.
Most often for US GOV it is often spec'd in utiizing ssf007 films, ( 7mil 1 ply) good luck almo
Wish I could. This is an older building that had 10 of 30 windows busted up and everybody at social security doesn't seem to know anything about the film.
kinda like you ya mean?

Blade, go to myspace if you need to play. Some people are trying to make a living.
you just don't come across as a tinter. anyone doing this job you have should atleast have enough experience to know how 4 mil film compares in thickness to an automotive film. government security film jobs are for professional installers, not "fly-by-the-internet" tinters.

Right about that. To many kids on this sight! Some people need to grow up!
Oh, I am a tinter. I just have never done a gov job and WAS looking for some info. Maybe i'll check myspace.
or try google.
QUOTE (blade @ Jan 9 2009, 05:17 PM) [*]660701[/*] kinda like you ya mean? Kinda harsh. Compared to some I can remember recently posting here with questions, he didn't come off as a smart aleck SOB with an attitude - just a guy looking for some info. Might be enough to advise him that safety/security installs require training/experience beyond what he would have from just installing auto or sun control films.
yeah it was alittle harsh
i'm sorry for sounding like a dick. but this post.... QUOTE Getting ready to tackle a security film job. Was wondering how much thicker 4 mil security film is than auto film??? and this post... QUOTE Sorry to be a bother, but " push it out " meens the water? made me think the dude didn't really know enough to be tackling a government security film job. okay dude...here's my advice: (since i'm getting beat up over this (as if i care)) if you only have 10 windows to do then match the film up as far as color (if it is a tinted SS film). and go with nothing less than a 7 mil film. if the film installed is in fact a 4 mil then your install is atleast a stronger film. there....i've edited my post and bet you guys are wondering what the hell was edited out huh?
wow...blade getting hammered and not me...this is a nice change of pace...but i do have to agree with everything he posted..
You are correct, I don't have any security film exp that's why I posted my question. I went to flatrock stans school where we worked primarily on cars and that is primarily what I work on
The thing with SS jobs is that you put yourself in a position to where you incur liability for what you install and how you install it. You said that you took a course to learn automotive? That was a wise move on your part. Have you taken one to learn SS or are you planning to learn as you go? What if you install this SS film incorrectly and their is an incident to where they find that people were hurt unnecessarily due to a faulty installation? You will be liable. When I look at the questions you have asked it becomes very clear that you are in need of experience and training in SS. Give some thought to this.
I can remeber my first SS job...what an eye opener. This is truly a test of skill. We layed Madico RS220 8mil to bring an old building up to code. We used power squeege's to apply the film. I think the hardest part about it, besides reverse rolling, was tacking the film down to the point where you can cut the edges. The film is heavy, and wants to slide down the glass. And its SO thick, if you dont hold your knife correctly, it will wander on you. I wasted a lot of film "learning" to install. It was like I had never touched film before. I would not recommend tackling an SS job w/o experience...especially a gov't job. I would take Vclimber's advise on this one.
you guys are too funny. I had a guy call me two weeks ago wanting to learn....has a shop and has a hard time relying on a dependable tinter. I told him about Stan ..he already knew about Stan..he is thinking of going to school there.... I dont see what the big deal is about giving advice over the net.... DrJ & tuttle
you guys are evacuating a little prematurely I would say: "I thought this was a Great site (drj) and "burn down the house" (tuttle). the percieved shortness to your post may have been after hanging a K sq.ft. of s/s . and when someone asks how much thicker one film is compared to another well most solar films range from1-2 mil then just make a mental comparison. Most guys/gals on here have tons of exp. so when a question like that is posed in that fashion,it's pretty open to interpretation. To cop an attitude and condemn the site for one guys post ( shame on you Blade I've hung over 200Ksq.ft. of the stuff ,it'll tear your joints up ,shock the crap out of you if you don't ground your slitter ,slice fingers and hands . Just get prepared , do your homework Many here have spent months on end on gov't projects so to hear your post is reminiscent of the "cowboy" that wanted to ride through the Rockies witha saddle blanket and a piece of twine for a bridle .
