Alignment Register for Blind Edges

I have done this for years.....

On vehicle windows that shift or traverse it is hard to get the "hidden" edge lined up. I began using a sharpie to make a mark on the film and the glass to align the film so that I don't push it too deep or not deep enough.

It works great on older cars like a 1968 Camaro where the rear sides roll down and you just can't see all the edges all the time but don't want to leave gaps.

Here is a picture of a 2008 Caddy Escalade door that I did today that had a "hidden" edge.

Film laid on door glass outside. Hard card the spot you want to mark to extract water.

Peel film back

mark the glass with sharpie. I use an H shape.

Quickly press film back down over the fresh sharpie mark. Mark should transfer onto the film and stay on the glass. I will remark the lines if it doesn't transfer or leave enough....

Align your mark when you are installing the film and you will KNOW where that blindside is and you will have the film right where you want it.

Film installed with mark still on. Just use rubbing alcohol to wipe off marks.

very good idea. would it be better to use a vertical line a little closer to the edge, since it would be easier to line up just one line?

That's what I do. With the window rolled all the way up, I just mark both sides (on the outside) where the glass goes into the frame with a dry erase marker. As you install you can see right where both sides need to be. thumb.gif

I'm very tired today, and I think that's why I'm not getting this. After I cut my film, I roll down the door glass bout an inch, slide the film in, and roll down the door as far as needed to see all hidden edges. Squeegee away and roll up little bits at the time and work out accordingly dunno.gif

Basically he is making an "H" on the outside of the glass and the film so when he applies the film, he lines up the two "H's" to make one...at least thats how I understand it.

I stick a white hard card into the hidden edge and look from the outside to make sure it's lined up and not overlapped.

with the mark you don't have to "see" the outside or the actual edge. You don't have to jump back and forth to look at the edge. You don't have to roll the window down enough to see the edge. You just have to line up the mark you made and then you know the film is where you want it.

For the POS that has a door glass that won't roll down you can actually line the film up pretty close with 2 marks instead of just one and get it pretty close to the right height!

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
