Can someone recommend an honest credit card processor. My bank talked me into theres with a low discount rate of 1.9% . I have been looking over the last 3 months statements and they have add on fees for everything and 70% of my credit cards are called mid qualified and paying 2.9% . I dont trust banks anyway they are crooks . Any recommendations would be great. I am in central forida.

I'm surprised you can survive on cash only. Then again, I'm sure a lot of the population in cali doesn't have necessarily legitimate money. Around here probably 80% of my jobs are CC. I pay 1.7 flat fee on all transactions except amex

It can be a big surprise when you get your first statement. There are alot of back end fees that you will pay if you are not famililar with accepting CC's.A few years ago we started accepting debit. That helped quite a bit.Whenever a card is presented for pay we ask the customer "credit" or "debit".90% of the time it is debit.I pay 1.8% for qualified and mid qualified,2.25% for non qualified,CC $0.22 per transaction,$0.65 per batch close,$0.70 flat on debit with a monthly statement fee of $5.95 and annual $75.00 fee.The one problem I have is a $395.00 lifetime cancellation fee.About every 18 months I request a rate reduction and usually get it or a few months without the statement fee.We do not accept Amex.We only accept MC,Visa,Discover.
OCC
See thats too much bs to go through
maddtinter
It definately is too much BS.I could only wish that I could accept only cash.Unfortunately,I can't.We have contracts with fleet companys and government agencies. They only pay with credit.I do remember I did about 10 cars for the Border Patrol 15 years ago and they paid with new printed Benjamin's.That was cool.

I shopped around a little and have been using united bank card I do pay $75 a year but that is just for warranty on the machine Im sure there are better deals out there somewhere but at the time they had the better rates than the others I checked I take everything but amer.exp.

Trying the credit card processing through Sams club . Rates are a lot lower but i have heard that story before when i get the bill. I have been getting screwed big time from Suntrust on the fees. I will keep informed on the true cost.

bingo.gif Like OCC i don't take credit cards! I except cash and checks and i tell our customers upfront i don't have a credit card machine and they go next door to the atm and bring me back cash! I've been doing this over a year and i don't have to worry about fees or waiting a few days for my money! I haven't had any problems so far and i will admit from time to time it's alittle awkward when that's all they have and they have to go to the atm but to me it's been easier to balance my checkbook and keep track of all my money!

if you accept checks there is always that chance of it being bad. if you take cards they usually use their debit versus writing a check.

over 60% of our sales go through our credit card machine

I haven't had any bad checks in a while, but your right there is a chance of getting that and i take precaution by only excepting them with 2 forms of id and a telephone# so i'll have some way to go after them if they give me a bad check!

I have been in business for 14 years and I don't accept credit cards. When I first opened I did but I got screwed by a customer and the credit card company. I was renting my third bay to a car stereo business and when I tinted my customers car she also had a stereo installed and wanted to pay with a credit card so I accepted the card for both charges and then paid the guys renting from me in cash. The customer filed a claim and said she did not authorize charges. It has been about 10 years ago and I don't remember the details but Long story short the credit card company took the money back out of my account. I did not know but evidently since the car stereo was a different business it was against the rules for me to accept the credit card. It was a long process, very frustrating and I had to write a letter explaining how the transaction went down along with several phone calls all to no avail.

I made my mind up then if she could get away with that then what would stop any customer from doing the same for any reason such as not be satisfied with the shade of film they asked for.

I am sure I loose a job here and there but to me it is worth it for less hassle and risk.

Our CC sales are up by atleast 20% in the last two months. Real CC not debit. I pay 1.9% for qualified and it goes up from there. We went through Sam's club years ago and have just been lazy about switching. The bad part is buying a new machine everytime you switch grinning_and_saying_no.gif that is the main reason we have just stayed with this co.

what machine do you have? most can just be reprogrammed, but they tell u to buy a new one or lease. but there are some that are out dated and need to be replaced when the company changes programs.

oh yeah, how many here carry a wireless for residential jobs? its a good idea unless you are a one man show. if you are a 1 man show you can get a wired unit and plug it into ANY phone terminal with service. they dial a 1-800 number so the custy will see no charges. if your unit needs to stay at the shop it may be better to get another wired unit or a wireless. the only benefit of the wireless is you can run it anywhere w/o a terminal but there is an additional monthly charge like a cell phone. most places that carry a wireless do trade shows where there are no terminals.

I wonder if you guys could just set up your own ATM.. Flaugh.gif
Charge them for the job... and charge them for the withdrawal... lol2.gif

I have been searching for the best plan for years, and finally found it. Cost plus is the way to go, it eliminates the middle man so you only pay the credit card interchange rate plus whatever the cc processor charges you. I cut my credit card processing cost in half by switching. Most cost plans will charge 10-15 basis points on top of the interchange rate by visa and mc, plus a statement fee and maybe a transaction fee depending on how much you process. If you are interested in a trust worthy company, email me and I will forward you some info.

From experience, don't let them sucker you into leasing a piece of equipment, this is the biggest scam out there and there are some good salespeople that con you into this. I highly recommend cost plus but not to lease equipment.

I like your ATM idea but for me I am afraid it would be cost prohibitive.
guardiangraphics
what does sam's charge for processor/fees?
Valuetint.com
You can set up an account with Authorize.net and manually input the cc info from your computer. The fees are slightly higher but it eliminates the need for equipment.

If you decide to purchase equipment, make sure that they set it for automatic batching.

The company we purchased from assumed we would know the difference and the default was on manual batch.

Long story short we had several months go by before someone noticed.

i just saw an iphone commercial. they have app. for a credit card processing, you don't need a machine. On com./res. bids you can take your 10% down immediately on your iphone. 1.5% , 2.5% it wouldn't matter me, but if its a big job (couple thousand) and they wanted to pay with amex, then i get pissed.

I got a friend doing the PAYPAL thing and he thinks its great gets his money the next day and if its bad money paypal goes after them. thats what I'm going to set up get rid of the two machines I have one is mobile, was free at 1.7% but its all the fees we have to pay. PayPal seems to be where it's at thumb.gif no hidden fee's no monthly fee's no epuipment fee's. yea the Iphone and you get a cell with it to use, and you can still go through Paypal and not have to use the Iphone bank. something to think about....
Almo
5+ years with Paypal.

I don't care about the rates, I have never, EVER been screwed, and never had a charge-back or complaint.

You can even use PayPal over the phone.

If you take the proper precautions... it's a win/win.

Paypal online terminal here ! $30 month plus fees which differ.

I have been using intuitmerchant.com a virtual terminal, on 12.00 per month and the % the card charges.

I used the exact same through quickbooks with an $80 swiper on my laptop with a verizon aircard.

BUT, Im strickly cash or check now for over a year and its totally fine. I never had a customer tell me that it was a problem and I do several jobs six days a week long including flat glass. Most retail customers pay cash and all dealers are check. Havent had a bounced check in a very long time.

People will pay if your the right person for them, and if they have to finance the tint job you dont want them anyway.
opus
http://www.totalmerchantservices.com/ I know several people that use them, myself included. Check them out you can execpt cards from a reader pluged into your laptop (I think not a service i use through them.).
