Full Version: Please help me find the right kind of film.
I want to tint a 2009 Nissan Altima Coupe. I thought this would be a pretty simple thing until I started researching. Basically, the Altima has one of those keyless systems, tire pressure guages, antenna in the rear defrost area, and I have a GPS. With all this involved I don't want to do anything that might mess with the RF signals so I guess anything metallic is out. I care that the tint looks good, lasts long, doesn't change colors, and is relatively durable. I also think I need something that isn't all that rare so that I have a good shot of at least finding it at a shop. So what am I looking at by now? Also, I want 30% but will be OK with anything between 20%-30%. I mention the percentage since I've noticed different lines come in different step sizes. I hear ceramic is expensive, I'm willing to spend $250 MAX so does this rule out ceramic. If so, what is the best non-metal, non-ceramic film that would fit my needs. Thanks fellas.
Find the local tint shops and ask them. And DON'T put a price on it!!
Quality costs, because it's worth it!
post where your from so we can steer you in the right direction
In the Philadelphia area if that helps. I go to Baltimore farely often so really anywhere within reason in and around Philly, Baltimore, and in between off of I95. I just don't know what kind of film to ask about. I think I want really high quality non-ceramic/non-metallic or some quality ceramic that isn't crazy expensive and can be installed by experienced professionals who won't screw up the tint job, my new car, and will be patient with questions and honor warranties. The more I think about it, I'm willing to go for the reasonable cermic route since I purchased the car and will have it for many years. One thing I don't quite understand is that from what I can tell, there aren't any films that I've found that meet my requirements that don't come in either 15% OR 35%. i was really hoping for something between 25% and 30%. Also, not sure if it makes any difference to tint shops but my car is registered in none of the states I'd end up getting it done in (plates are Louisiana). I appreciate the quick replies so far.
Look around for a Solar Gard shop that carries their Supreme line. Its what I use, both HP and regular, and my customers love the film. It is non metal and lifetime warrantied for color fastness. It is a very straight black film, and by far the cleanest and most optically clear film I have ever seen or used. Look around for a shop that carries it, and ask them to see a couple samples, I know you'll like it. Either that, or find a shop that carries Johnsons Greystone film. Its another very nice film, but a tad bit green, and a lot greener than the Supreme.

I think HP has metal in it and can interfere with satellite based systems, am reception, tire gauges and I dont know what else. I tink metal films offer the highest heat rejections, although I guess I could be wrong... I'm still new. Ceramic offers the highest heat rejection I believe?(not sure, i don't use it). as far as the Supreme, it is more of a hybrid film that a true HP film. I would stick to the regular Supreme. You are gauranteed to not have any problems with interference, and still have a lifetime film. If you did Supreme 15( what you mentioned you were looking for), it still blocks 38% of the solar heat, which is pretty good for a medium dark non metal film. Supreme is the blackest looking film I know of, and looking out is not green or blue at all, just straight grey with a touch of brown.
LLumar ATX Axcess 30 should be the idle tint from what you're saying... wont mess with your gadgets and is at the 30%, As for price goes, it wont come cheap
I'm thinkin axxcess also. Or 3m CS 35, it looks more like a 30 though.
That back glass can be a task in 3m but it can be done. I've done 4 in the 3m.
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
