Full Version: use of car tint compare to residential
So i have a question i am pretty new to the tint game but mostly i do car window tint but have been getting calls on residential i was wondering do i need to get residental tint or does automotive tint work the same
Auto tint usually not the best choice for residential. Check with your film supplier and ask them for recommendations for residential tint.
ok i appericate the help also i herd if you put too dark it can break the window is this true
depends on the type of window ,but it can ....
old rule of thumb...if your using a non reflective film on a double insulated glass, never install darker than a 35%... do as dark as you want with the reflective. as you get further involved into it, you will learn about the ir and ceramic films that are safe. well its a good time to get more involved now a matter of fact.
to quote another member here......
there's a reason it's called "auto" tint.
Thats true
I encourage you to get into FG, however do your homework! learn your films, learn your glass, learn your laws, etc.. most states you have to have youre contractors licence or its !llegal to touch a building, along with makeing sure your insurence covers what your doing and also your surety bond. Long and short of it is doing FG is a big responsiblity make sure you have your T's crossed & your I's dotted. Oh yeah keep your prices up. good luck!!!!
talk with your film supplier and they will be able to set you up. Most of the good ones have application guides for what you can use. JWF for example gives you a sheet that has every line of their film in every shade with chart that says yes or no that it can be applied depending on the window frame type, glass type, etc.
To answer your other question, yes, too dark of a "auto" film will cause glass failure. The dark auto films absorb the light, causing the glass to heat up and crack or pressure burst the window seal. Most darker FG films are reflective, so they reflect the majority of that heat that is absorbed by auto films so the windows dont break.
Right know it is mostly for friends and it is just on houses. But i still would like to make sure i am doing it right
i no this is probably a stupid question what does FG stand for
FamosK Where do you live?
Utah
Use the proper film for the application. Flat glass film are tested for safe use on specific glass.

if you dont want to answer don t put anything down you dont have to be an ass about it. It was a simple question
If you don't even know what FG stands for(Flat Glass), you have a long way to go and learn before you should be installing FG films on houses. Its nothing at all like auto, except for the fact that its a film put on glass.
i am sorry i am not dont know the lingo you guys use yet i just started i pretty sure you didn't come out knowing everything so give me a break i would make you feel like a fool if you were to ask any question
there's a lot of info here ,take the time and do the searches and reading ,then ask more informed questions ,you'll get much better responses that way...
thanks i will. you got to start somewhere though
