decoglass
Call around and see what the going flat glass rate is in your area. Call your film supplier and ask them to educate you on coatings, types of glass and other considerations before you go into quote. Call them afterwards with all the details and have them help you select a film. Don't use auto tint for flat glass. If you are serious on wanting to get into flat glass then I would partner with a mfg and do their training seminars. A good mfg warranty and a good insurance policy are essential.

I second that......................

If you want, I will be happy to spend some time on the phone with you to help you get started. You can email me at suncontrolwindows@gmail.com so that we can hook up.

If you can install auto, you can easily install flat. Learn how to do reverse roll so you can do by yourself. Will need to get some tools and ladders. Will need a good distributor to sell you good product at a fair price.

Then put together some marketing materials, get cards printed and start marketing. I can help you with this if you need ideas on marketing.

You will need to learn more about glass, film, fading, glass breakage and seal failure, and other technical aspects of glass and solar film. After you get started, you will have to decide if you want to also do safety & security and/or graphic/designer. Both of these require additional education and gearing up.

Regarding pricing for solar films, usually about $-.00/sq. ft. for standard film and more for the advanced films. Will charge more for complicated applications, travel, etc. and will charge less for easy large volume applications.

Flat glass is a great business. It can be profitable, fulfilling and fun. The key is professionalism, how to set yourself apart and most of all, Marketing, Marketing, Marketing.

Hope you help a lot of customers, make a lot of money and have fun,

There's a little report button on each post that sends me a PM, so if you see spam or an inappropriate price, then just report the post and I'll get to it ASAP otherwise I might not notice. beer.gif

Be very careful in you transition into flat glass tinting.
There is more at stake than just burning a piece of trim or cutting a rubber weatherstrip.

If you're not careful, you can end up with thermal fracturing and have to buy someone a new window and pay someone else to put it in...

Tread lightly, get with a manufacturer and learn what the ins and outs are and keep your prices up, don't go lowballing or you'll screw it up for everyone... twocents.gif

P.S. Please put your location in you profile... At least what state you're in... beer.gif

It's very challenging, sometimes I don't know what to do. Look at the current pic submission thread and the one a couple of weeks ago.

I don't know whether to delete the posts of people fighting or leave them there, ask the people to chill out or ignore it. I wonder about the effect it has on the forum as a whole, the general impression people get when they come here and see some childish stuff like that.

On the one hand, if I just pull posts like that, I get accused of censorship, or taking sides or not being even handed, also if I pull the posts, especially where someone winds up being asked to leave, there's only their word on what happened and no one can see how they behaved, but if I leave the posts there, the place looks like a joke and no one wants to participate.

If a running fight starts spilling into every thread and I ask both to stop then they both focus their anger on me and think I'm taking sides or whatever.

There have been so many different scenarios played out, I've lost count, but I think (hope) I've become a little wiser about some of the situations but sometimes there are just no good ways to handle them without upsetting someone, there have been a lot of no win situations and some real heart breakers.

It seems as if you do a pretty good job of keeping it fair. Most of the time its pretty obvious who is causing the problems on purpose(Richz....) and those who are doing it in a joking manner. Its good that this forum is relativelely small compared to some so you can keep a handle on it for the most part. You should have a closed forum where you can move the problem threads and lock them so their only viewable so the argument doesn't carry on if the same issue comes up again somewhere else. That way you can have proof to show people when they complain.

Thanks for the help guys
