Full Version: use of tint marker?

exbauer
I got my windows tinted last night and had a better chance to look at them this morning. I noticed on all of the windows have marker on the sides. It seems like they cut the tint short and used marker to fill it in. I called them about it this morning and they said it was a common practice to use a tint marker. Is this true? If they told me this ahead of time I would not have used them.

Is there such thing as a tint marker? It is a common practice to use? Of all the cars I have had tinted this was never the case.

well there is such a pen and it is used by some.but in my opinion not on all windows, they cut the film short and are covering light with the marker. where are the pen markings? on the sides of the windows?. wow i have yet to use a marker for a "light gap" but i must admit i have one (gotta be ready for whatever) but with my company rep on the line i wouldnt roll that work out not on all the windows.call them back if your not happy.
tintaddicted
or could it be they marked the wrong side of the film for cut line and marked the film and not liner hmmmmmmm.gif
yeah i guess it depends where the marks are, anyway just a thought.

take some close up pics of what you are talking about and we can give you a better answer. but from the sounds of it, you should take it back and demand they redo it without those "marker spots". MAYBE one 2-3" section on a BG is acceptable, because its not worth scrapping a whole piece of film for, but not every window.

It is on all of the windows...front and rear passenger side windows and the front and rear driver side windows. The marker is on the outer edge of the windows on the left and right side. I don't have camera, but will try to take pics.

It is not common practice to use a tint marker (aka opaque pen) to cover up light gaps.
Twisted Tinter
What type of vehicle do you have? I never use an opaque pen on side windows but some windows have alot of movement in the track, causing alignment issues.

It is a 2009 Toyota Prius. I looked it over and the tint was cut too short on the sides. With the window rolled up there is a gap from the side of the door and the window tint. I talked to the guy and he is going to refund me my money and remove the tint. I am going to take it to somebody who knows what he is doing and more qualified and doesn't use a tint marker.

Do your research, I am sure someone here is in your area.

Easy car dude. Come to think of it I just saw a post about someone wanting to open a shop just caused it seemed easy to do tinting. Next time ask the "next" long they have been in business. Usually, you'll get what you pay for, so spare a couple bucks extra and you won't worry 'bout it anymore.

The guy that did the tint scratched my exterior glass while cutting the film. I am really pissed. The guy I went to must have been a noob. He is even 3M authorized and that doesn't seem to mean anything.

Through this website I contacted somebody and he is a bit too far. But, recommended somebody else. He can vouch for him and has seen his work. I talked to the guy and he sounded like he knows what he is doing and has been in the industry for a long time. I am going to see some of his work and then probably get my car done with him.

I wish I contacted him from the beginning and bypassed this headache.

assuming the first place is a legitimate shop, they should have insurance. demand that they either pay for your glass to be repaired or replaced. glass is not cheap, probably especially so on a 09 prius. if they give you a hard time, threaten to go to the police, and that should take care of it. If they still give you a hard time, then really do go make a police report. every now and then you have a mistake or a bad car, and it needs to be taken care of. It sounds like he hasnt been tinting that long, but even still if he wants to have more business he will take care of his customer. I know most people on this board have probably bought glass at once time or another. It sucks, but it happens, and its what we pay for insurance for.

Im not taking sides but allot of times the scratch is already there. I usually show the customer before I even start tinting if i see it. The tint just makes it easyr to see that kind of stuff. Just a FYI

from the sounds of it its every piece of glass that is scratched, not just one. Being a 2009, I'm sure its not already scratched as it is. Also, he said he scratched it when cutting, so its most like near the edges of the windows, which is how it would happen when cutting

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
