Full Version: Opinions on Madico?

Jay Tee
Hey guys

I'm going to get one of the new Mazda3 hatch's tinted soon
The tinter that I want to use stocks only the Madico range - Onyx, Charcoal and Advanced Ceramic

The antenna is not in the rear glass, but the car will have Bluetooth and GPS

Am I correct in saying I should steer away from the Onyx because it's a metallic film?

I've read around here that the tint fades pretty quickly, is that true?

Basically what's your - both consumer and tinter's - opinion on those film?

Thanks in advance
Jay Tee
Also forgot to mention it'll be 35% and I prefer a black look without reflection

I've been told the Ceramic's are too reflective. Is that correct?

Well with Onyx it'l be black but not color stable and metallized, Charcool will have green hue, and Ceramic more reflective than first 2 choices. You may want to look around. dunno.gif

Charcoal is what I use most. Charcoal outlasts Onyx and Charcool.....I've used it ever since Madico came out with it. The green hue comes from applying it to green glass which nearly all automotive glass is. They dont put clear glass in cars.

I think you mean this the other way around. Charcool is the dyed extruded film that is color stable. Charcoal is just a stardard 3 year dyed film.

Jay, if they offer it, go with the Charcool (CH). It will have a nice smoked look. You cant go wrong with Madico.

That's for the reply guys

I misread what the tinter used and it was Charcool, not Charcoal (why must they make it so confusing??)

So Charcool won't fade too quickly? He actually recommended to me Onyx, but we're still not sure of the location of the GPS antenna yet

Ive used both. My Dads truck has Onyx 35% on it front two windows. I installed it late 2001, its still look good, but it has faded. Still crystal clear looking out though. Darker Onyx film fades worse. I installed Onyx 20% on my Moms two front windows in mid 2002 and it looks pretty purple now. I need to put legal on it...it was back when I didnt care about laws. I dont know about todays Onyx b/c I havent installed any since 2003, but many here say it fades quick.

I have been using Charcool(CH) for 3 years now and have yet to have ANY issues with it. I have it on my vehicle and its 2 years old. There is no fade line when you roll the window down. CH is a dyed color stable film. If I were you, Id go with the CH. It will give a nice smoked look.

NO.......I said what I said and I have the experience to back it. I have been using Madico for 22 years. Yes, I know charcoal and charcool have'nt been out that long, but I've been using them eversince they came out. My charcoal jobs have out lasted the charcool jobs. PERIOD.

Ok, relax. I have had the reverse experience.

Madico re-engineered Onyx a couple of years ago. It is no longer reflective like it used to be and the shades match up a lot better. Never really liked Charcool but only because I could sell Onyx for more. But both Onyx and Charcool have the manufacturer's lifetime warranty and Madico has always been great about taking care of their automotive warranties.

Madico's Onyx and Charcool have survived the harshest climatic conditions ever to be experienced throughout the world here in Australia.
I have not had any problems with either film which is simply outstanding compared to some of the trash dished out for sale downunder by other companies that have completely failed within 2 years.

Only today I had a guy in from 10 years ago with his new Toyota Landcruiser 200 and his comment to me was that his old 'cruiser 100 which he traded was still as good as the day I fitted it....that's Madico.

I use Charcool exclusively. It's color stable and lasts a good long time. Had a car that I tinted seven years ago this week and they wanted their new Accord done the same Never had any probs with it and they really stand behine their product lines.

Well you must have a different sun there in America.

Have been carrying this brand for about 12 years. I have never had to file a claim for film failure. My son's car I installed Onyx and in 2000 and it started changing colors a couple of years ago. It has never seen a garage

As far as turning purple like the above post. Never experienced that here in Texas

Devil you are the Madico man and any one who wants a bullet proof film [durability wise] will heed your words.... These are my own. I stock 4 brands of Color stable/non metal films so I never lose a sale..... I would personally warranty the COOL without the the card..... But the Supreme is the cleanest film out the box. thumb.gif.....May be the Fl. sun is different were Jeff is?

I HAVE A TOYOTA TACOMA 07 AND I INSTALLED MADICO ONYX 35 ON THE FRONT DOORS AND IT STILL LOOKS THE SAME AS THE DAY I INSTALLED IT GREAT STUFF AND I LIVE IN SUNNY CALI4NIA. I DISAGREE TO ALL PEEPS SAYIN ONYX DOESNT LAST ITS A FANTASTIC FILM. ANOTHER GREAT ONE IS THE SOLARGARD SUPREME.

I have warrantied two vehicles with Onyx both installed in 02. Neither one of them had changed colors they were just slightly faded by ten percent. Madico stood behind them and both vehicles still looked good, the only reason they got retinted is because I noticed the slight fade and I am in Texas. It is hot as hell in the summer. Now Madico used to have a film call Traditional Gray or TG that was shiat. It has been discontinued and they are in the process of coming up with a new line (Black Pearl) that looks like TG did but holds up better.

I'd agree with all that Felix.
Just got rid of our 4.5 year old Toyota Corolla a couple of days back for a new update and that was as perfect as the day it came out of the box and it took one hell of a going over the rear screen to get it on in one piece.
No signs of ghosting or adhesive shrink marks nor anything to find fault with.

The Bek Supreme film has had a major problem with it lifting off painted dot matrix edges at time of installation....that has been my experience and I've sent it all back to never use it again.
Shame because I did like the clarity and the TSER performance but definately not worth the drama as a business owner.
Found that the same problem was experienced over in the Pacific island of Fiji where a tinter I made contact whilst on recent leave had the same problem so it wasn't a just a batch.

Yeah I have to check out the new Madico cuz down here, all I saw was crap. Purpling like crazy. I haven't paid attention to them in a while. I know a shop that carries it. I'd like to see what all the lines look like. If it can hold up in Australia, It can hold up anywhere

I know what you are getting at and it is that Huper is the best. True that Huper does have the best numbers but they don't make a film line for the average consumer. I install a lot of Huper and the money is really good but most people can't or don't want to afford anything over $250 depending on the area market. So Huper has nothing to even compete in that category and below.

You have obviously NEVER used Charcool or Onyx. Charcoal...yes, it will turn purple, as it is not warrantied against fading. CharCOOL is. Onyx will fade as well, but it will take longer than most people keep their vehicles. Madico produces a damn fine film, for all applications, as do other mfg's.

It is easy for the consumer to mistake the two..so I refer to the film as COOL so the search crowd does not get confused with Coal......

Maybe y'all get different Charcoal then I get, I have never had any of it turn purple or change colors at all. But I have seen the glue go wavy on a couple windows but those were done a long time ago. We offer a lifetime warranty on Charcoal and have been around long enough for it to bite us in the arse, which it hasn't.

After I posted that, I remebered working for a company that only used Charcoal for dealer work, and we never had problems. I dont think I have seen a purple Charcoal job, but, it is only a three year warrantied film.

I almost wish I didn't like Madico as much as I do, cause I am really tired of dealing with Enpro's Dallas office. I have been thinking about just putting in all of our orders with the Houston office. As long as the order is over so much it is shipped free and we almost always order enough to get free shipping.
