Security/Safety Film For Storefront Glass

It's somewhat older glass, probably not tempered, where they had a recent break-in. Typical units about 31" X 61".

What do others recommend for installation?

It depends on the frames. I would say to go with an 8mil security film if they are worried about smash and grab. If their alarm is monitored and police response is good, this should be a good deterent. Most who try to break in will smash at it a few times and give up before the PD show up. If there are good metal frames, you can also sell the Dow corning 99 attachment system. This will adhere the film to the frame for a better reduction from intrusion.

Attachment systems are a must in my book.
I have seen smash and grabs where the film held the broken glass but fell right out of its frame, like an open door.

yea i would think that you would just be wasteing time if it was anchored. whats the going rate for S/S film installed and anchored?

If this were my job.... I would REPLACE the glass with LAMINATED GLASS, then film it with at least 8 mil 2 ply and of course anchor it all in.

Tell the customer as well that they should upgrade their burglar alarm system with "DUAL TECHNOLOGY" glass break detectors. Motion detectors (IR detectors) won't work when glass breaks. The upgraded glass break detectors work off the specialized frequency of tempered, laminated and filmed glass and as well the percussion of the hit.

This will sound their alarm as soon as the glass is struck, and hopefully buy them more time before the thief can get through right away. Thieves want in and out FAST.. they don't want to mess with a target that is not easy to get through.

on the doors you want to take the frames off the door that holds the glass in and put 8mil inside and 7 mil outside and put the film all the way to the edge of the glass and then run a bead of 995 on both sides of the glass edge all the way around and then put the frames back on and that will adhear the glass to the frames and the door casement. On the rest of the glass if it is tempered it will need anchoring moreso then if it is just plate glass. But anchoring all the glass will give you the best results. If it is not anchored they can kick it a few times after the glass breaks and work the glass peice out of the frame and gain entry. When I say a few times it depends on the mil of the film installed. It is intended to deture the thief being that when they go to gain entry the glass may break but stays in the frame, then they will hit it again and see that it isnt falling out and just leave so they dont get caught. If the thief is determined to get in he can just depends on how much time he wants to spend. Usaully there is a glass breakage sensor that sets the alarm off and scares them away cause they cant just smash it and grab it real quick.

Yea I have seen glass guys cuss the hell outta the film cause they were removing an attempted break in and the guys was doing everything he could to get the glass outta the door frame. Took he 10 min to get it out and then he had to clean all the silicone out too.It is the best way to do it by far.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
