Definitely use a 1" pvc pipe or broom handle, because towards the end the ends will want to "bend" and ruin your day...

Blade is right. It doesn't matter how big the window is, you don't need a pipe. I just did a 68"x132" by myself. Turned out perfect. I like to roll the piece nice and tight. Liner in. Start your reverse roll, keeping the film tight. Roll off about a foot. Walk the film down the glass slowly. I can be tricky at the bottom when you can't roll anymore for fear of a crease. Pull the liner off the back, and pull the liner slowly from the bottom. Keep things wet and take your time.

Like davlisgen said, when you get towards the bottom, stop unrolling and pull the liner off. If you are using dry adhesive, if you roll it tight enough, you can "snap" it down to unroll the entire thing...and it makes a nice snap sound as well when done right. Practice with scrap pieces that are a foot or so wide, and 6-10 foot long to get the idea. disaster waiting to happen if you use a pvc pipe
(TINT @ Apr 30 2009, 12:15 AM) [*]683259[/*] disaster waiting to happen if you use a pvc pipe how is it a disaster waiting to happen? I use it all the time as its how I was taught. Roll it up, drop it down and the pipe falls straight on the ground with your film nice and unrolled. Makes a ton of noise and make you look like a dang plumber. Maybe rookies use it...but I'll bet someone who has been "around the block" and prep the roll, lay the film, and squegee faster than someone who needs a pipe as a helper. Just learn to do it without it. I know Id be pissed if a PVC pipe fell from 6-10' and slammed on my nice hardwood floors. Better to have the control, I wouldn't risk dropping a pipe with a high dollar piece of film wrapped around it.
i wouldn't drop it either. if the film is easy enough to drop quickly you don't need a rod. i've used it with ps before and unrolled it slower and it did help. but yesterday i reverse rolled ps all day with no rod. :>
I did 1,998 windows in a building, windows were 53 x 102 and I used pvc on every one. No disaster happened. I use pvc depending on the film and not very often in a home. I always use 2 1/2" PVC with security film works like a charm. Last security job I did was 7 mil. the windows were 59 x 62. With the added weight the liner came completly off, laid the film on the glass and pulled the off the front in one easy fluid motion.
i respect the guy/girl who wants to use a pipe to unroll flat glass film
I use JWF for my flat and I use a small pipe to help the snap. I have tried to snap it without a weight and it just does not come off all the way. I would rather have a pipe drop on my drop cloth than have to pull a liner off the film.....
I have tried to roll it tighter and it still doesn't want to go all the way.
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
