This is real!!
I just had a guy cancel on me for Tuesday...if things are not tight anyway!!
He told me his insurance company want to charge him an extra £310 ( $470 USD)...if he wants after market tinted windows!!
This is not the first I have heard of this, it is my 2md or 3rd cancellation due to insurance companies.
This is a f***ing joke!!
The installation is perfectly legal and there is a factory option for privacy glass ( X type Jag Est) but they want to penalise him and US to this extent.
I have asked what insurance company he is dealing with ( awaiting answer) and I wil speak to Llu-Llu to see if they can approach them on my behalf. I think a big mfr will have a little more impact that little old me!
We need to get a handle on this situation fast, no doubt we will be getting customers returning who are not happy...we told them the install is legal ( B pillar Back) and they now find a problem getting insured.
I am not sure how we can fight this - I welcome opinions from all the UK guys who may/will become effected by this crazy action.

Insurance company - one more cheating inventions of capitalism, one more air supplier to big air bubble which exploded recently. They charge money from nothing, after that invest to banks, banks gave credits and loans and so on, so on, so on...... And they are strong in that - as everywhere they have their lobby. We come to bank with bulletproof glass proposal - we don't need it, everything is insured. But cashier can be killed! - He is also insured. That's insurance company atitude to people. They need our money, to push air to air bubble, nothing more.

Hav'nt come accross this thankfully but have had instances with insurance brokers trying to charge more if glass get tinted. They will want more money for any upgrade from standard fitment.
I have had the opposite where a guy asked his insurance if he got tints, b post + on a discovery would it increase his premium, yes came the answer, he checked with some others who said no and he ended up saving money by switching insurance companies.
It sounds like your guy is being ripped off by his insurer but that still doesn't help us.
What possible argument/justification can they have if you fit tints to match option from dealer, at a cheaper cost.
What about option from dealer, I've had cars given to me from dealer because the car didn't have tints but customer requested it.
keep us posted Nik.

Cant really understand why the customer would go out of the way to inform the insurer, i know i certainly never have and probably never will? As uncle bob says we do many many installs for dealers that sell new cars with aftermarket tints because they cannot obtain the same car with tinted glass, the customer is often unaware that the tint on their new car is a film, therefore when insuring the car the tints would never be mentioned as they think they have a "factory" tint on the glass anyway! I think the insurer is taking the p*ss to be honest, it doesn't affect the car's handling, performance and its not as though the "tints" can be stolen from the car so why an increase in premium???

Nick i still understand why insurance companies charges rates based on your credit score and why a 4cylinder 2 dr car cost more than a 4 cylinder 4 dr car . I heard once a red car cost more also !!!

Some of these customers just dont know when to keep there mouths shut...the insurance company would be none the wiser to the window film and like i say, many cars are tinted at the port of entry (Toyota for one)

Just another way for the insurance companies to get more money out of the customer Play Dumb is my view...
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
