In this current economy? Not lookin so good.

That being said, unless you have the books to show what you have earned for how long you cannot substantiate that it is a profitable business. It is just you saying I do this many cars a month. I know of one shop that refuses to do any work under the table since it makes his sales look lower on paper when it comes time to sell the shop he wants to be able to proove its performance.

Not sure what the 40 cars a month is value as that would be all over the board with different pricing. At mine it would equate to less than 10 grand a month GROSS. That would equate to about the wages of a good paying factory job! Not that great.....

I have thought about switching gears and going into autobody. Have a guy that would be able to take over the tinting, but we would not make much and pay him too. Thought about "selling" to him. Do a tool and inventory purchase and then maybe a percentage for the first 5 years or something. Then it would be his hustle to make the dime and we would still get something out of it....

WOW what factorys pay 10k a month???and even if that were true your talking about a 40 hour week minium lol. 40 cars at even $100 a car is 48k a year and thats the low end. 1 or 2 cars a day is like 4hrs a day of acutual work.lol

I should have expected this kind of response.lol. I guess its hard askin a bunch of seasoned tinters who know that they could start a shop with a roll of tint and a tent for under $500. I got a offer from a guy who knows nothing about tinting he's a detailer by trade lookin to get into something new. He wants to take over my 1000 sqft shop 5 year lease 3 employees and some dealership work. Also part of the deal is for me to stay on as a consultant and teach him how to run the business and tint. The offer was 30k. What do you guys think??

from what i hear if u buy a shop and make the money back in 5 years then its a profitable business. with that said i have calculated the price of our shop and i HIGHLY doubt anybody would be willing to pay that regardless of how good it is. this is also considering that people think that a tint shop is cheap to start. well it is but it is very difficult and expensive to keep it up for the first five years even.

put it this way, ive had my shop almost five years. we expect to reach over 2 mil in sales at the end of this year (total since we've been open) and i have almost nothing to show for it, but a nice car, a steady flow of work, and a good reputation in our area. shits expensive, but we do blast advertising, so next year we will be pulling A LOT if not all, and see how sales go.

I'm wanting to sell my retail shop and put the rest of the family now working retail to work on my training business with me but like LTL said now is not the best of times to sell. Anyone interested here is a clip of the shop I made for UTube
Cheers

Notice I said 10K GROSS? Work that out and find what you actually are making and it is more like 5K after all the expenses. Now figure that even $15 per hour is going to be costing an employer about $1000 per week to pay everything!

I looked at hiring a friend, but he is making that 15 per hour and brings home about $600 per week.

Sure the 10K per month looks good on paper and is not bad wages, but it is not going to make you rich....

I'd walk away for a year's salary, they get some vehicles, computers, furniture, a bunch of misc shop stuff, a handful of dealer accounts, and a pretty steady clientele.

LOL, something lik that.
TINT
our company was originally sold at 120k in 99. i acquired it back in 04 because of non payment. it was in agreement to pay in monthly for some years. at the time of sale it was mostly auto tinting and with flat glass being not so exisitent, it consisted of close to 200 dealerships, body shops, and a montlly revenue of about 30k to 40k a month. it was smoking and these folks blew up all up. goes to say if i end up selling, it will be cash, not down payment then montly payments lol2.gif
matty cox
in the uk its normally 3 times your net yearly profit, ive sold many of my tint companies off over the years this way.

If you have enough business to keep 3 people busy i think more about $60K

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
