Q about imperfections....

Hi guys. I'm a car/truck wrench head enthusiast and had my 2007 Tacoma Double cab tinted today at a local shop. I spent a lot of time researching films, and %. and thanks to this board I found out good info about my rear factory privacy glass. Here is the deal. I had 35% HP Supreme Solar gard put on my two front doors & 75% Ultra HP solar gard on the rear doors, rear sliding window and windshield. It's solar gards top of the line... ceramic stuff. Might as well be clear... which is what I was looking for. First off I had a hard time finding a shop in the area that even carried a film remotely close to what I wanted. Everyone wanted to do 15%, 20% all around you know.... just go real dark. So I went with the only shop that carried this stuff and seemed good. I love the products. The VLT % and combo, shades etc came out GREAT!!! Couldn't be happier about that. My Q is how common/acceptable is it to have some imperfections in the tint. My main issues are:
1- On the windshield there are quite a bit of "pits". Feels like sand granuals behind the film. There is also a scratch in the tint about 5" long.
2- On one of the front doors in the corner, you can clearly see where they tinted over a small scrap piece of tint.
3- In general there are a lot of things in the tint..... pits mainly; sand?
Ran me approx $300 to do all of the above. I was not arguing about price, I made it clear I wanted quality. Opinions guys? I can snap some pics if need be. Just wondering here b/c I blew over $300 on this tint job.

FYI, they seemed like cool guys. and I'm also wanting to go back b/c they have the new Viper 5901 that most other local shops haven't even heard of. So I will say this shop is "up to date" on things.

This is the spot where they tinted over a piece of small tint in the corner. Worst spot of the whole job. I could live with the rest most likely. Really want this fixed. Tint over a piece of tint....no.

That's not acceptable IMO ..I would say if you go back..point out ALL the things that you see ..yet only want that one window done and you are willing to let everything else go..my gues is they will be only too happy to fix that 1 window. (when yo usay "pits" in the glass ..without seeing pics, I'm thinking dirt contamination , when you say 5" scratch..I'm thinking squeegee scratch ) If your willing to look past that..but want that one window taken care of..your a more than reasonalbe customer .

Ok. Just wanted to make sure I'm not to picky. squeege scratch is probably right. My guess is all the contamination came from the fact they have a 1 bay garage and office all in one. and people are walking in/out all the time.

If I'm paying three bones to have a Tacoma tinted....it better be perfect! Take it back if Your not happy with it and get them to redo ALL the windows that You are unsatisfied with.

One other thing I noticed is on the doors they cut the tint above the inner weather strip... never seen that done before. I've always seen guys cut the top, slide the whole film up about 3/4" and then cut the bottom and slide it down. Am I wrong?

Amazing how in the Tampa area I can't find a "perfection" tinter. Unbelievable.

Nothing is "perfect" but from your pic I wouldn't have let it go like that. Bring it back, be cordial and hopefully they take care of you.

10-4 guys. If they fix that one window I'll be ok with it and gonna call it a day. Now my wife wants her windscreen done!! She has her wagon done with LLumar, 25% & 20% I think, not sure but that shop back home did a awsome job on 2 cars for us. He tinted our whole Turbo Supra w/out one pit/imperfection. I couldn't find anything wrong with it. But that's a long drive for tint. I just found a shop 1hr away that does auto, house boats etc. Solar gard, LLumar or Formula one. Gonna have them do 75% F1 UV shield. See how they do, kinda compare them ya know.

I doubt this shop would do a total refund.... Just don't see that happening. I'm not even sure how I'd present/ask that question. Even I can say that's a tall glass to fill.
Boom- Your guys work at a particular shop? Seems like all the shops around tampa are $99 hoopty shops. I couldn't imagine if I had a Porche or something... would have absolutely no idea where to take it. lol. Wouldn't mind at least having your buddy take a look and seeing what they think ya know...

All you guys afraid to raise prices, this is a perfect example, here is a consumer who WANTS a good shop and can tell by price alone. If you are doing good work, raise your dang price!

i'm not really sure I got my $300 worth out of this job.... I much rather of paid $350 or $375 and got a perfect job. Bottom line is I can't stand anything other than perfect.

Only when a newbie slowly turns into a vet and they feel the ravages of time slowly set into thier bones and muscles will they appreciate more of value of thier time they CHOOOSE to invest into being a better tinter during thier time on this planet and what its worth to consumers for thier final skill end product will they then raise thier prices..to weed out the low paying customer to the appreciative one who's will ing to pay for a great tint job.

Now, if You take it back, and are still unsatisfied, and You do decide to do the refund route, THEN I can send You to My guys over there. TG is right about the price though. I failed to see that the WS was done to. But still, for that kind of money, You should be happy with the results.

See I didn't know $300 was cheap for the film being used and the amount of windows. Glad I didn't pay anymore for what I got though....
Boom- I'm having the wife's windshield done in the next couple weeks. Would rather try a different shop. Looking for some kind of 75% ceramic film comparable to the Solar gard UHP 75%; or we can do the SG I seem to like it so far on my taco.

75% bud. Rest of the truck is legal. I drove it tonight for the first time in darkness; awsome. Can't even tell. If anything it helps with the glare. I have light colored eyes and wear glasses so oncoming headlights bother me, but not so much anymore.
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
