I used to install rollups by leaving the bottom two inches of the liner on, like a large amount of tinters do. Then I was shown this technique by another tinter. At first I thought "how can this work" ? But I tried it and have been using it ever since. So, before You bash , try it for Yourself. You may be surprised, thumb.gif

Wet the door panel a little....

Lay Bounty paper towels across the length of the door panel, leaving them about 1/2 inch from the window, and wet the paper towels real good. Don't be skurred to wet the towels good, because the towels also keep solution from dripping on the door to much. You can't use cheap paper towels, because they will leave lint fibers on the film.

Then clean Your windows and install film as normal. Peel the liner all the way off the film and wet real well.

Notice how the edges of the film are curled in and under. This in itself keeps a majority of the film off the panel.

Then lift the film off the panel with one finger as normal, and roll up the window. Hose the glass and the film down real well, and squeegee the bottom out as usual.

You will be very surprised with the end result. Holla! Remember if You dont give the customer a reason to complain....they won't.

No contamination, seriously? Cool biggthumpup.gif

you are right...that is a technique that i have never seen.. blink.gif ..and i hope i never see again.. spit.gif

i just dont see the purpose of the paper towels myself..i would think having just laying the fiilm on the clean plastic door panel would be cleaner. dunno.gif

i am always open to trying new think...but to tell you the truth..this is one that i wouldnt and wont be trying...but if it works for you and your customers are happy with the result..they more power to you. beer.gif

i know a guy that does something simular....

basically the same way except that instead of using towels, use the liner that u peeled off the film.

clean window, peel liner, lay liner where you towels are, go back and get the film, install. personally i dont see the differance in just doing the 50/50 peel like we all do already.

I do the same thing but have it lay on the plastic panel after wiping it down real good before hand. I get less contam than I did when I did a 50/50 peel beer.gif

Wow...finally someone willing to at least TRY it! Thats what "Tips and techniques" is about....sharing information amongst ourselves. Not standing on our pedestals proclaiming to be "GAWD" poking_someone_in_the_eye.gif and knowing everything! Let Me know how it turns out 250f! thumb.gif

Not to piss1.gif on your riff, but what do the paper towels achieve? And from those pics, honestly tell me you didn't have side creases.
Booms2Go
Thats cool TD! I know that Your not the type to bang on someone without a reason! sweat.gif It does sometimes confuse Me when other folks just dismiss an idea without even trying it, but I have to admit, I was skeptical when I first saw it. No More! Some people let the film lay right on the door panel, I choose to put paper towels there. As long as they're WET, they will not leave fibers in the window. So You keep the contamination from the door panel out of the film. It's just a technique that I was shown, and then used exclusively. Much easier for Me to just pull entire liner, and go. And yes there may be a slight side crease sometimes on the tall side, but much smaller to me, then when hanging with the liner on. Maybe an eight of an inch. thumb.gif

the real question is how did u not get any contam. from the paper towel and panel.....simply amazing
FREDSTINTING
but wouldn't that be the same as leaven the liner on the bottom of the film if your doing the tech cleaning and using the liner right you won't be getting crap in the bottom of the window.

i find leaving the liner on puts more weight on leaving larger creases at the fold, as well as catching the dirt that may be squeegeed down from the top half and gets caught in the liner. I do the same thing but use just the clean panel, and don't have any contam issues. That way the dirt can run all the way down and not get caught beer.gif

Is that your fingerprint I see in the final pic? Looks to be in the same area as where your touching the film in the pic proir to that one..

Maybe it is just touching the edge, but it appears to be on the adhesive in the pic. there also seems to be what looks like a fingerprint in the same area.. Could be a light reflection for all i know.. just asking a simple question thats all..

Been using the wax coated floor mats as a gasket tool for a long time and it protects the bottom of the film from contamination. http://www.carcareproductsinc.com/store/pr...oducts_id=10302 Like these ones. Just shove them in the gasket, fold them over the door panel and wet it down. I like removing the door panel 1st but some european cars you might cause more harm then good.
thatsnappyguy
all these extra products and steps required for some people and not others...wouldnt you want to listen and maybe try things as the people that dont have to buy rolls of towels, and floor mats, and thrumb prints and TIME... peel it and stick it. i have never heard so much BS when it comes to tinting anything. all the extra crap you guys are putting into it, you may as well pull the panel and not have to worry about anything eles.

ok...here we go. no one asked you to bring it to this "I'v been tinting since...., I tinted so many more cars than you...." BS. No one cares. i know i dont. All im saying is, you cant post some never before seen "swagger" and get all wiggly when someone diddles your method. When you post it on the internet, be prepared for criticism, whether its constructive or not.

Ps. you been tinting 15 years...i been tinting 9 years...i have done half what you did, so i can critique you swagger. your not talking so some know it all beginner...
TTS
I don't know about all that.... but I took everyones advice and comments.. and merged them with Booms original post... and here are my results...

First I layerd a bunchs misc. shop rags.. and THEN layered clear liner over that (more is better right???)

I decided to use a variety of rags for the test to be able to post on all types of conditions..

I even lifted the film by pinching it in the middle as to NOT get any fingerprints on the adhesive..... last thing I need is a detective finding my prints! spit.gif

The Results..... Mixed...

Maybe someone can tell me where I went wrong ?? dunno.gif
