Full Version: Film-On

Hi guys, I was wondering who has used it and what their opinion of it is. I am having trouble with adhesion and some fingers popping up along the bottom weather strip on roll ups and someone suggested that film-on might help.

Do You shrink Your rollups?

I'm a beginner. I've been practicing by myself and so far I've gone through a roll, but I still had this as a re-occurring problem.

I am tinting a Jeep Cherokee which has almost flat glass. When I squeegee the film on the outside to cut it to the right shape and to make sure it fits and all, there are no fingers... I even tried heating the film while the liner was still on when it was on the outside to try to "pre-shrink" it, but it doesn't seem to do anything as I still get the fingers when I put it on the glass.

My slip solution is about 1/4 cup of sesame street baby shampoo with the little Elmo action figure glued to the front to 1 quart of tap water.

I'm completely sure its user error. I watched a guy tint my Mustang windows which have much more of a curve than my Jeep Cherokee windows with the same film I'm using and he didn't shrink them at all and they turned out perfect with no fingers.

Hey it is baby shampoo... lol

and Jeez! You remember the things you want to. I replied to that thread, that razor blade was what I used to clean the glass. The glass if you look at my other thread was taken out.

As far as squeegee technique, I didn't know there was a specific one. The way I did it was set the top, anchor it, roll the window up, then start from the upper middle and move towards all the sides.

This thread isn't about another post I made in my other thread, which if you notice, there was not one useful reply from any member on the thread except for the first which was Booms. Stop being so full of yourself. I honestly don't see how you don't think I can pick up the basics of tinting from watching an expert do a car in front of me while explaining the steps.

I get it, this isn't a forum for beginners, its all professionals that aren't interested in helping people starting out. If someone would answer my original, legit question concerning film-on vs a regular slip solution, I will leave and not bother you people again.

Thank you for your time...

It is a matter of preference...... baby shampoo, dishwashing liquid or 'slip agent' they all work ... experiment you will find what you like best.

Try reducing the amount of baby shampoo if you're having adhesion difficulties.... there is such a thing as too much slip.

BTW the dissing and poking goes with the industry.... smile and learn to laugh at yourself because you can bet that someone else already is. beer.gif

Dude chill out, were just messing with You. Flaugh.gif For You Elmos slip solution gasp.gif ...Your using WAY to much..and I mean WAAAYYY to much. In a standard spray bottle You want just a little squirt of Joy, or whatever slip Your using.
Next on the list...when You tack the top of the window, and then roll it up, WATCH the film as You roll the window up. When the top of the window hits the channel, does Your film slip a little? This may cause the fingers on the bottom, if one side slips down even a hair when You roll the window up. Make sure Your top tack is real good. Try that let Me know how it works. thumb.gif

Will do when my new roll arrives. I'll let you know. I'm also going to modify my slip to J&J and use the right ratio to help eliminate any accidental error. Thanks.

yep...work with the "mix"! You want ENOUGH to slide as much as you need to slide and the when you hit that first HARD squeegee stroke the film LOCKS down. If you can still move the film around after you squeegee it down then you probably have too much slip.

oh and on this forum your post here does sound like a joke to us with the "Elmo" baby shampoo......and then the huge amount of it you say you used.....

I did my jeep cherokee which is a two door with decently long back windows. no issue at all with the rollups other than cutting the top trying to shave the edge. Now the back windows got me cause I did not remove the seatbelt which comes down at the middle point and makes it challenging. I also used film-on and I would say that it really made little to no difference for me.

Yeah I had no problem with the seat belts on mine, but I know what you mean. I probably didn't do it the right way but I just put a bit of the flim on the window, climbed in, got my hand around the seat belt, pulled it off and repositioned it.
